Khawaja Asif hails Sialkot Medical City project

Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif has said that Sialkot urgently needed a medical city. He said the project would help improve healthcare facilities for people in the city and nearby areas.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony of Sialkot Medical City, Khawaja Asif praised the business community for supporting the project. He also appreciated the role of the Sialkot Chamber in making the initiative possible.

The minister said Sialkot had been facing a major healthcare gap. He said patients often had to travel to Lahore when serious medical emergencies occurred in the city.

According to Khawaja Asif, the new medical city will help reduce the need for patients to travel to Lahore. It will also provide better healthcare services closer to the people of Sialkot.

He said the project was an important development for the city. He hoped that the medical facilities would further improve the quality of healthcare available to local residents.

Khawaja Asif also spoke about major road projects in the region. He said another lane would be added to the Lahore-Sialkot Motorway.

He said the Kharian Motorway would be completed before the other project. He added that better road links would further improve connectivity between Sialkot and other parts of Punjab.

The defence minister recalled that he had received a positive response when the motorway proposal was presented. He said major road networks had connected several cities and towns with each other.

He said the route from Shahdara to Rawat had created stronger links between different urban centres. Such projects, he added, were important for trade, travel and economic activity.

Khawaja Asif also highlighted the growing importance of Sialkot International Airport. He said the airport was no longer serving only the people of Sialkot.

He said people from Jhelum and Gujrat were also using the airport. Residents of Azad Jammu and Kashmir were also travelling through the facility, he added.

The minister credited Sialkot’s business community for many of the city’s major development projects. He said local traders and industrialists had made significant contributions to the city’s growth.

Khawaja Asif said the Sialkot business community had established high standards. He added that these standards were recognised internationally.

He said the success of Sialkot showed what could be achieved through cooperation between the business community and public institutions. He stressed that continued development could further strengthen the city’s position as an important economic and industrial centre.

Police said an employee of the Home Department’s Licence Branch has also been found involved in the case. His alleged role is being investigated to determine how official records or procedures may have been misused. A case has been registered, and two suspects have been arrested during the operation. Police carried out a raid and seized a large quantity of equipment allegedly used to manufacture the fake licences. The recovered items include a laptop, a printer, ink bottles, around 700 licence cards, and other materials believed to have been used for printing forged documents. Investigators are examining the seized equipment to identify additional suspects and uncover the full scale of the operation. Police have also written to the Home Department, requesting assistance in the investigation. Officials are expected to examine departmental records to determine whether more employees were involved or if official data was misused. Sources in the Home Department said a committee will be formed to conduct a detailed inquiry into the incident. The committee will investigate the role of all individuals linked to the case and recommend legal and departmental action where necessary. CCPO Dr Mian Saeed said the investigation is progressing and that authorities are determined to bring everyone involved to justice. He said strict action will be taken against all suspects, including any government officials found responsible. He added that no official involved in the fake arms licence racket would be given any leniency, and the investigation would continue until the entire network is exposed.

Eight detained in Nablus In Nablus, Israeli forces entered the Ras al-Ain neighbourhood and stormed three buildings. Soldiers searched several homes before detaining eight Palestinians, including a woman, local sources said. The operation reportedly involved searches of residential properties, with residents subjected to questioning before the detainees were taken away. The raid was part of a wider military campaign across the northern West Bank, where Israeli forces have repeatedly carried out overnight and early-morning operations. Raids reported in Tubas and Jenin In Tubas province, Israeli troops entered the town of Tammun and remained there for several hours before withdrawing. No arrests were reported from the operation. Meanwhile, in the Jenin area, Israeli forces entered Al-Yamoun, where they arrested a former Palestinian prisoner from Jenin city. Another Palestinian was detained in Deir Ghazaleh, located northeast of Jenin, according to local sources. The arrests added to growing concerns over the continuing military pressure on Palestinian communities in the occupied West Bank. More arrests in Tulkarm Further arrests were reported in the Tulkarm area. Israeli forces detained a Palestinian customs police officer and a young man from Irtah, a suburb south of Tulkarm. Two other Palestinians were also arrested following raids and searches of homes in the village of Far’un. The latest operations come against a backdrop of escalating violence in the West Bank. Reuters reported this week that Palestinian residents have described mounting pressure from military raids and settler attacks, warning that the situation is approaching a breaking point. At the same time, reports of demolitions have added another layer to the tensions. Anadolu Agency reported that three Palestinian homes were demolished during the wider military campaign, with Israeli authorities citing claims related to construction permits. The title “Jinnah-1” was proposed by seven participants, with the final winner chosen through a draw. The scope of the law extends to overseas organisations targeting individuals within China, whilst also mandating compulsory anti-cyberbullying education across schools and educational institutions. By targeting AI-driven psychological harm and emotional manipulation, regulators aim to establish robust emergency intervention mechanisms to protect minors and vulnerable demographics from emerging forms of digital harassment.

    A mosquito-borne disease has resurfaced in Israel, with 13 people reportedly diagnosed with West Nile fever this year and two deaths recorded. Health officials explained that West Nile virus is generally transmitted through mosquitoes that become infected after feeding on birds carrying the virus. The infected mosquitoes can subsequently transmit the virus to humans through bites. Professor Sigal Sadeski, head of the Public Health Division, said that West Nile fever is mild in most cases and many infected people may not develop noticeable symptoms. However, the infection can become serious in some patients. Health experts warn that the virus can affect the nervous system and, in severe cases, lead to complications such as encephalitis or meningitis. The risk of severe illness is reportedly higher among people over the age of 60 and those who already have underlying health conditions. Investigation Underway Israeli authorities have launched epidemiological investigations to determine how and where the affected individuals were exposed to infected mosquitoes. Officials are also examining whether cases reported in different locations are connected and are attempting to identify areas where infected mosquitoes may have come into contact with people. The discovery of infected mosquitoes has also increased the importance of mosquito surveillance and control measures in the affected areas. Environmental authorities are expected to monitor mosquito populations and take steps aimed at reducing the risk of further transmission. Previous Outbreak in 2024 Israel also experienced a significant outbreak of West Nile virus in 2024. According to an Israeli report submitted to the World Organisation for Animal Health, 916 human cases had been confirmed by September 2024, with 71 deaths reported. The latest cases have renewed concerns about the seasonal spread of West Nile virus and the potential risks posed by infected mosquitoes. While most infections are mild or may cause no obvious symptoms, severe neurological complications can occur in a small proportion of patients. Health authorities are therefore continuing surveillance and investigating the latest infections to better understand the spread of the virus. The current outbreak highlights the importance of mosquito-control measures, particularly during periods when mosquito activity is high. Authorities are expected to continue monitoring affected areas and investigating possible sources of transmission.
