Lahore police decide polygraph test for ASI in all…

Lahore police have decided to conduct a polygraph test on an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) in connection with allegations that a young woman was sexually assaulted at Ghaziabad police station.

According to police sources, ASI Imran, who is currently in custody, will undergo the test as investigators continue examining the allegations and conflicting accounts surrounding the incident.

Police said the alleged victim has already undergone a psychiatric assessment. The report from the assessment is expected to be received on August 18, while additional medical and forensic examinations have also been conducted.

According to the police, ASI Imran has denied the allegations. He reportedly told investigators that he had brought the woman to the police station because she was allegedly involved in begging. He claimed that he did not assault her and instead provided her with food and counselled her before sending her away.

Investigators said the initial medical report contains some ambiguity regarding the allegations of sexual assault. Police officials said a detailed report from the Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA) is expected to provide further findings that could help investigators establish what happened.

The case is being closely monitored by DIG Investigation Lahore Zeeshan Raza, who said he is personally supervising the investigation. He assured that anyone found responsible would be punished according to the law.

Police sources said further tests of the alleged victim have also been conducted, but their results are still awaited. Investigators are expected to consider the medical evidence, forensic findings, statements and other available material before reaching conclusions about the case.

The investigation is being conducted under the direction of DIG Investigation Lahore. A team comprising Ghaziabad Investigation Incharge Inspector Nasir Hameed, Gender Cell Incharge Inspector Fatima and Investigation Officer Faryal is working on the case.

The decision to conduct a polygraph test on the detained ASI comes as investigators attempt to establish the facts surrounding the allegations. However, the reported initial medical ambiguity means that the final medical and forensic findings will be important in determining the direction of the investigation.

Authorities have said that the investigation remains ongoing and that legal action will be taken on the basis of the evidence collected.

Mir Raza murder probe hits geo-fencing hurdles, po…

KARACHI: Investigators probing the murder of young businessman Mir Raza are facing challenges in completing geo-fencing around the crime scene, with the passage of several days making it harder to accurately reconstruct movements in the area. According to investigative sources, the crime scene is located near a hilly area that has been subjected to geo-fencing. Mobile towers belonging to three different telecom companies are situated around the location, allowing investigators to collect data on mobile activity in the vicinity. Sources said geo-fencing has so far produced location data covering several blocks of Gulistan-i-Jauhar. However, because considerable time has elapsed since the incident, investigators are finding it difficult to establish which individuals were present near the crime scene at the relevant time. Police have also collected various pieces of evidence from the surrounding area. Investigators reportedly conducted a search within a radius of around 500 metres from the location where the body was found. Meanwhile, the newly formed investigation committee has obtained details linked to Mir Raza’s smartwatch. Investigators are now attempting to retrieve the device’s complete data, which could potentially provide additional information about his movements and activities before his death. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to combine digital records, physical evidence and device data to determine what happened in the final hours of Mir Raza’s life.

UK petrol theft hits £200,000 a day amid fuel price surge

The sharp rise in fuel prices across the United Kingdom has triggered a significant increase in petrol theft, with filling stations now losing an estimated £200,000 worth of fuel every day, according to media reports. Petrol station operators have reported a growing number of “drive-off” incidents, where motorists fill their vehicles with fuel and leave without making payment. The trend has become increasingly common as higher fuel costs continue to put pressure on household budgets. Reports indicate that the overall financial impact of fuel theft has climbed by 48 percent following the recent surge in petrol and diesel prices. Retailers say the increase has added to the challenges already facing fuel station businesses, many of which are struggling with rising operating costs. The spike in fuel prices followed heightened tensions during the Iran conflict, when global oil markets experienced sharp volatility. During that period, the price of petrol reportedly increased by 27 pence per litre, while diesel prices rose by 37 pence per litre, making fuel significantly more expensive for consumers. Industry representatives warn that the consequences extend beyond financial losses. According to the Petrol Retailers Association (PRA), the rise in fuel prices has also been accompanied by an increase in abusive and aggressive behaviour directed at petrol station employees. Pump attendants have reportedly faced more verbal harassment and confrontations from frustrated customers. Fuel retailers are urging authorities to take stronger action against theft and improve security measures at filling stations. They also stress the need for greater protection for frontline staff, who are increasingly being exposed to difficult and sometimes dangerous situations while carrying out their duties.

Teen in clown costume arrested after fatal stabbin…

A 15-year-old boy has been arrested after allegedly fatally stabbing a 78-year-old man while dressed in a clown costume in East St. Louis, Illinois, in a case that has shocked local residents and gained widespread attention online. Authorities say doorbell camera footage and neighborhood surveillance videos were instrumental in identifying and apprehending the suspect. According to police, the incident occurred on Monday night when the victim, John Wesley Allen Sr., was waiting at a bus stop to meet his sister. Investigators allege that the teenager, dressed in a loose black-and-red clown outfit, suddenly attacked the elderly man with a knife, inflicting multiple stab wounds. Allen, a retired bus driver and US Navy veteran, died from his injuries. Before the fatal attack, the suspect was reportedly seen wandering through nearby neighborhoods while wearing the clown costume. Residents told investigators that the teenager rang several doorbells, peered through windows, and appeared to be searching for someone. One widely shared doorbell camera video shows the suspect leaning toward the camera and whispering, “I’m looking for you,” in a chilling moment that later spread across social media. Initially, many online users believed the footage was part of a prank or a horror-themed stunt. However, police later confirmed that the video was connected to a real homicide investigation, adding to the public shock surrounding the case. One local resident told police that if his mother had opened the door after the suspect rang the bell, she might also have become a victim. Investigators are reviewing additional surveillance footage and digital evidence to determine whether the attack was premeditated or a random act of violence. Using surveillance footage from nearby homes and businesses, police identified the suspect and arrested him within hours at a residence in the area. Authorities have charged the teenager with first-degree murder. Because the suspect is a minor, law enforcement officials have not released his identity. Police said preliminary findings indicate that the victim and the suspect had no known connection, suggesting the stabbing may have been a random attack. The investigation remains ongoing as detectives continue examining evidence, including social media activity and surveillance recordings, to establish the motive behind the killing. The case has drawn national attention due to its disturbing nature and the viral spread of the doorbell camera footage, while authorities continue to urge the public to avoid speculation until the investigation is complete.

Murkowski opposes Blanche, putting Trump’s AG pick at risk

WASHINGTON: Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska has announced that she will vote against Todd Blanche’s nomination for US attorney general, dealing another setback to President Donald Trump’s choice and leaving his confirmation prospects increasingly uncertain. Murkowski’s decision makes her the second Republican senator to oppose Blanche, following Senator Susan Collins. With the Republican majority in the Senate already facing a narrow margin, even one more GOP defection could put the nomination in serious jeopardy. Murkowski said concerns surrounding an $1.8 billion “anti-weaponization” fund played a major role in her decision. Although the fund was rescinded while Blanche’s nomination was under consideration, she questioned whether it could be restored if Blanche is confirmed. “The country needs an Attorney General who will check the worst impulses of this administration,” Murkowski said, adding that she did not have sufficient confidence that Blanche would fulfil that role. Her opposition adds to a growing political challenge for Blanche, who is seeking Senate approval to lead the Justice Department. The nomination has faced scrutiny over questions surrounding the department’s independence and its handling of politically sensitive matters. The situation is particularly delicate because Republican Senator Mitch McConnell is absent from the Senate. That leaves Blanche with little room for further defections, while attention has turned to Republican Senator Bill Cassidy, who has yet to make his position clear. Murkowski, a longtime Alaska senator known for occasionally breaking with her party, said she had met with Blanche several times and viewed him as capable. However, she ultimately concluded that his nomination raised concerns she could not overlook. Her decision could force Senate Republican leaders to intensify efforts to secure support for Blanche before the chamber’s August recess. For Trump, a failed confirmation would represent a significant political setback in his effort to shape the Justice Department with his preferred leadership. The Senate battle is now expected to remain closely watched as Republicans work to determine whether Blanche can secure enough votes.
