Pakistan mediates US-Iran talks over Hormuz crisis

Pakistan has confirmed that diplomatic negotiations between the United States and Iran remain active despite renewed military escalation across the Middle East, expressing hope that dialogue can prevent the conflict from spiraling into a wider regional crisis.

Speaking at a weekly briefing in Islamabad, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said negotiations were continuing with a particular focus on reducing tensions and addressing the growing dispute over the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.

“Negotiations between parties are ongoing, particularly on the Strait of Hormuz and to de-escalate,” Andrabi told reporters, emphasizing that Pakistan remains committed to promoting a peaceful resolution to the conflict.

The spokesperson said Islamabad is working closely with all relevant parties to revive the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), an agreement aimed at creating a framework for technical discussions and confidence-building measures between Washington and Tehran.

“We are doing our utmost to bring all parties back to the Islamabad MoU,” Andrabi said, adding that Pakistan is encouraging both sides to honor their commitments and continue technical-level talks despite recent hostilities.

His remarks come as the region faces one of its most dangerous security crises in recent years. The United States has resumed large-scale military strikes on Iranian targets following missile attacks on American forces, while Iran has vowed further retaliation. The escalating conflict has raised fears over the security of the Strait of Hormuz, a key global shipping route through which a significant share of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas supplies passes.

Pakistan has consistently advocated diplomacy over military confrontation, warning that continued violence could threaten regional stability, disrupt global energy markets and increase the risk of a broader conflict involving additional countries.

Analysts say Pakistan’s role as a mediator has become increasingly significant as communication channels between Washington and Tehran remain strained. While no breakthrough has yet been announced, officials believe sustained dialogue offers the best chance of easing tensions and preventing further escalation.

With fighting continuing across the region, Islamabad has reiterated its support for peaceful negotiations, urging all parties to exercise restraint and prioritize diplomacy over confrontation in order to safeguard regional peace and international energy security.

One killed as fire breaks out on Indonesian ferry …

Indonesian rescue teams pulled more than 200 people to safety on Wednesday after a ferry that departed from the resort island of Bali caught fire in waters near Lombok, officials said, as crews continued searching for any passengers still unaccounted for. By Wednesday afternoon, authorities had confirmed one Indonesian national dead among the 212 people evacuated to ports in Bali and Lombok, according to Muhammad Hariyadi, head of the local search and rescue agency. Most of those rescued were Indonesian citizens, with one Australian national also among the evacuees. The KM Putri Yasmin had departed Padangbai port in Bali bound for Lembar port when the fire broke out, Hariyadi said. Authorities have not yet determined what caused the blaze or whether the vessel was carrying more passengers than permitted. Hariyadi said rescue teams deployed multiple boats to carry out evacuations and coordinate with other vessels near the site of the incident, with more than 200 personnel involved in the response. The fire broke out in the Lombok Strait at 4:39 a.m. local time on Wednesday, Hariyadi said. Earlier in the day, Padangbai port official Heri Wiyanto told a local broadcaster that the ferry’s manifest listed only 114 passengers and 17 crew members, raising questions about whether the vessel exceeded its registered capacity. The incident comes less than a month after a separate ferry fire killed five people off the coast of Madura island, when the KM Mutiara Sentosa 2 caught fire while also carrying more passengers than its manifest indicated. Indonesia, a nation made up of roughly 17,000 islands, depends heavily on ferries for transportation between islands, since sea travel remains cheaper and more widely available than flying in many parts of the archipelago. Enforcement of maritime safety standards varies widely across the country, however, contributing to a comparatively high rate of ferry accidents in Indonesian waters.

Taylor Swift reveals the biggest stress of cheerin…

Taylor Swift has become a familiar face at NFL stadiums while supporting Travis Kelce, but according to new reports, game days are far from relaxing for the global music superstar. Swift has attended numerous Kansas City Chiefs games since her relationship with Kelce became public, often drawing as much attention as the action on the field. While fans love spotting her in the stands, those close to the singer say watching her husband play is one of the most nerve-racking experiences she faces. According to reports, the hardest part for Swift is seeing Kelce put his body on the line every week. Football is one of the most physically demanding sports, and every tackle, collision and fall leaves her worried about his safety. Despite enjoying the excitement of the games, she reportedly spends much of the time hoping he walks off the field healthy.  The concern is understandable. Kelce has built a career as one of the NFL’s elite tight ends, a position that involves constant physical contact. While he has proven remarkably durable throughout his career, injuries are always a possibility in professional football. Swift’s presence at Chiefs games has also become a headline of its own. Television cameras frequently cut to her reactions, and every expression is analyzed by fans across social media. That level of public scrutiny adds another layer of pressure to an already emotional experience. Reports have suggested that she has intentionally kept a lower profile at some games to avoid becoming the center of attention and to keep the focus on Kelce and the team.  Despite the stress, Swift continues to show up whenever her schedule allows. Friends say supporting Kelce remains important to her, even if every game comes with anxious moments. The singer understands the demands of elite performance herself, while Kelce has previously spoken about admiring the dedication and physical endurance required during her record-breaking tours.  For Swift, the cheers, celebrations and victories are worth the nerves. But behind every smile from the VIP suite is the hope that the final whistle brings the same outcome she wants most—not just a Chiefs win, but seeing Kelce leave the field safe and healthy.

South Korea offers North Korea formal end to war

South Korea has made a fresh and potentially significant proposal to North Korea, calling for both sides to formally bring an end to the Korean War and move away from decades of hostility. According to officials, Seoul has urged Pyongyang to abandon threats and confrontational policies and instead work toward ending the state of war that has technically remained unresolved since the 1953 armistice. The South Korean government also proposed establishing a coordinated security system along the border to help prevent military tensions and reduce the risk of accidental clashes. The initiative is aimed at creating greater stability on the heavily fortified Korean Peninsula. The proposal comes amid continued tensions between the two Koreas, where military activity and hostile rhetoric have repeatedly raised concerns about a possible escalation. Seoul’s latest offer could open a new diplomatic door if Pyongyang responds positively, although North Korea has historically remained cautious about South Korean-led initiatives. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump also drew attention to the issue by sharing a memorable photograph on social media showing his meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. The developments have renewed questions over whether diplomacy could eventually replace confrontation on the Korean Peninsula.
