Pakistan stands with Nepal after broad peak avalan…

Pakistan has expressed solidarity with Nepal following the tragic avalanche on Broad Peak in the Karakoram mountain range, where members of an international mountaineering expedition were caught in a deadly snow slide. Prime Minister’s Adviser on Inter-Provincial Coordination, Senator Rana Sanaullah, said Pakistan shares the grief of the Nepalese people and remains committed to supporting rescue efforts.

According to Rana Sanaullah, the avalanche struck a team of 10 international climbers attempting to scale Broad Peak. The expedition included six climbers from Nepal, along with mountaineers from Pakistan, the United States, China, and Oman.

He said the Government of Pakistan immediately prioritized search and rescue operations after the incident. So far, the bodies of four climbers have been recovered, including Nepalese mountaineer Pur Bahadur Gurung. Rescue teams continue to search for the remaining missing climbers despite difficult terrain and severe weather conditions.

Rana Sanaullah stated that the Pakistan Army and other relevant agencies are carrying out extensive rescue operations using helicopters, drones, and all available resources. He noted that challenging weather and the remote mountainous landscape have made rescue efforts extremely difficult, but authorities remain fully committed to locating the missing climbers.

The adviser explained that search teams are utilizing GPS tracking, aerial surveillance, and ground search missions to maximize the chances of finding those still unaccounted for. He emphasized that rescue operations will continue without interruption until every possible effort has been exhausted.

Expressing condolences to the families of the victims, Rana Sanaullah said Nepalese climbers, along with other international mountaineers, are highly respected in Pakistan for their contributions to global mountaineering. He added that Pakistan values its long-standing friendship with Nepal and stands with the families affected by the tragedy during this difficult time.

He further reaffirmed that the government will continue to deploy all available resources until the search mission is completed. Pakistan, he said, remains committed to assisting the international climbing community and ensuring that every effort is made to locate the missing members of the expedition.

The Broad Peak avalanche has once again highlighted the dangers of high-altitude mountaineering in the Karakoram, where unpredictable weather, avalanches, and challenging terrain continue to pose significant risks even to experienced climbers. Authorities have pledged to maintain rescue operations while closely monitoring weather conditions to ensure the safety of rescue personnel.

Noreen Niazi’s comments do not reflect PTI polic…

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has distanced the party from recent remarks made by Imran Khan’s sister, Noreen Niazi, stating that her comments reflected her personal opinion and should not be viewed as the official position of PTI. Speaking to journalists outside Adiala Jail on Tuesday, Gohar said he had been informed that the interview in question was recorded nearly three months ago. He emphasized that Noreen Niazi holds no office within the party and is not involved in PTI’s political decision-making process. Highlighting national security, the PTI chairman described Pakistan’s recent success in Marka-e-Haq as a matter of national pride and credited it as a blessing for the country. He said Pakistan’s response to external threats had demonstrated its strength before the world and warned that any future aggression would be met with an even stronger reaction. Gohar also appealed to political leaders and the public to avoid making controversial statements about the armed forces or the country’s martyrs, stressing that such sensitive issues should remain above political disagreements. Reaffirming PTI’s position on terrorism, he said the party fully supports decisive action against terrorist elements and called for a united national strategy to eliminate the threat through collective efforts and available state resources. On the political front, Gohar confirmed that PTI’s boycott of parliamentary standing committees and the Judicial Commission remains unchanged. Discussing the upcoming Azad Jammu and Kashmir elections, he said the party had received reports that the electoral process had been rescheduled into three phases. Although some members had proposed reconsidering the boycott, no agreement had been reached, and the party’s decision to stay away from the polls remains in force. Separately, prison sources confirmed that former prime minister Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, were allowed to meet inside Adiala Jail. The meeting reportedly took place in the prison’s conference room and lasted around 30 minutes. Meanwhile, Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan called on PTI lawmakers and senior leaders to actively participate in the party’s anti-government campaign instead of leaving the responsibility to a limited number of workers and family members. Expressing concern over the lack of updates regarding her brother’s condition, she questioned how long the movement could continue without stronger support from the party’s elected representatives and leadership.

Former Mexican governor formally charged over 2014 disappearance of 43 Ayotzinapa students

A Mexican judge has ruled that prosecutors presented sufficient evidence to formally charge Ángel Aguirre, the former governor of Guerrero state, with forced disappearance and obstruction of justice in connection with the 2014 vanishing of 43 students. Aguirre, who was arrested following new testimony gathered by a federal investigative unit, is accused of ordering the destruction of surveillance camera recordings that could have clarified the events surrounding the abduction of students from the Raúl Isidro Burgos Rural Teachers’ College in Iguala. Defence counsel denied all allegations, asserting that Aguirre was attending a high-level meeting at the time the recordings were allegedly transferred to him. The judge ordered that Aguirre remain held in a maximum-security prison pending trial. The indictment represents one of the most prominent legal developments in the case since the 2022 arrest of former federal Attorney General Jesús Murillo Karam. Of the 43 trainees abducted on 26 September 2014 after commandeering buses for a protest, the remains of only three have been positively identified.

Lionel Richie takes a dig at Chris Brown during co…

Lionel Richie has sparked a conversation among music fans after taking a pointed swipe at Chris Brown and Usher during one of his recent concerts. The 77-year-old music legend made the comments while performing with Earth, Wind & Fire in Phoenix on August 11. During the show, Richie compared the current R&B tour featuring Brown and Usher with the tours he performed decades ago with the Commodores and Earth, Wind & Fire. (People.com) Richie suggested that Brown and Usher were not doing something completely new by bringing two major R&B performers together for a large-scale tour. He pointed out that the Commodores and Earth, Wind & Fire had already been performing major joint shows about four decades ago. However, Richie’s comparison took a sharper turn when he referenced the legal troubles surrounding Brown. He joked that the biggest difference between his generation and today’s artists was that his group members had not gone to jail. The comment appeared to be a reference to Brown’s past legal issues. (Billboard) The remark quickly spread online, with clips from Richie’s concert gaining attention across social media. While some fans viewed the moment as an amusing example of the veteran singer defending his generation’s legacy, others debated whether the joke went too far. Richie later appeared to soften the tone of his comments. He described both Brown and Usher as “fine Christian men” and suggested that the internet often creates unnecessary controversy around celebrities. (People.com) Brown, for his part, did not appear to take the comment too seriously. The singer responded on Instagram with a playful message directed at Richie, calling him “paw paw” and adding laughing emojis. His reaction suggested that he viewed the exchange more as friendly teasing than a serious feud. (TMZ) The comments come as Brown and Usher continue their joint R&B stadium tour, which launched earlier this year. The collaboration has attracted considerable attention because both singers are major figures in modern R&B, with their careers spanning different eras of the genre. Richie’s own career gives him plenty of experience with massive R&B performances. As a member of the Commodores and later as a solo artist, he became one of the most recognizable voices in popular music. For now, there is no indication of a serious feud between the three singers. Instead, Richie’s remarks and Brown’s playful response appear to have created an unexpected exchange between two generations of R&B stars.
