PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Suhail Afridi has officially launched the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Digital Transformation Policy and Roadmap 2030, describing it as a landmark initiative aimed at establishing transparent governance, improving public service delivery, and building a sustainable digital economy across the province. Speaking at the launch ceremony at the Chief Minister’s House in Peshawar, the chief minister said the policy is among Pakistan’s most comprehensive digital transformation frameworks and provides a long term roadmap for modernising governance through innovation, technology, and digital reforms. He said the provincial government is committed to implementing the vision of “Digital Khyber Pakhtunkhwa” and praised the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa IT Board and other stakeholders for preparing the roadmap through extensive consultations, international best practices, and future-oriented planning. The Digital Transformation Policy and Roadmap 2030 is built on five strategic pillars, nine core objectives, 32 thematic domains, and 915 strategic interventions. It includes clear implementation timelines, institutional responsibilities, and a comprehensive monitoring framework to ensure effective and sustainable execution. The chief minister said the introduction of paperless governance and digital reforms would significantly improve transparency, accountability, efficiency, and service delivery. He added that reducing human intervention in administrative processes would strengthen merit, transparency, and accountability. Under the roadmap, public services will be digitised in phases and made citizen centric, enabling people to access government services and information through a single digital platform. The initiative is also expected to reduce unnecessary visits to government offices, particularly benefiting residents of remote areas. Highlighting the importance of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies, Afridi said the government would equip more than 100,000 young people with AI and advanced digital skills, creating new opportunities in employment, freelancing, entrepreneurship, and investment while strengthening the provincial economy. He added that digitisation would not only improve governance but also reduce government expenditure, ensure more efficient use of public resources, minimise paper consumption, and contribute to environmental protection through greener administrative practices. Referring to the province’s fiscal performance, the chief minister said the government collected Rs150 billion in revenue during the previous fiscal year against a target of Rs129 billion, without imposing any new taxes. For the current fiscal year, the revenue target has been set at Rs180 billion, with expectations of reaching Rs200 billion through improved governance and financial management. During a detailed briefing, officials informed participants that the policy also includes measures to promote green ICT procurement, environmentally sustainable digital infrastructure, carbon footprint reduction, and the establishment of a carbon credit registry to support Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s transition towards a modern and environmentally responsible digital economy. In line with the policy’s digital-first approach, the roadmap has not been issued as a printed publication. Instead, all policy documents have been made available through a QR code, demonstrating the government’s commitment to digital accessibility and paperless governance.

On Sunday, July 26, the Kardashian-Jenner matriarch shared an emotional post on Instagram to celebrate her mother’s life and legacy. The touching tribute came just 10 days after Kris announced that MJ had died at the age of 91. The Instagram post featured a collection of cherished family photographs, many of which appeared to have been taken during MJ’s 90th birthday celebration. The first image showed the late family matriarch smiling brightly while wearing a colorful floral jacket. Other photos captured precious moments between Kris and her mother, including one of the pair sitting together at a table and another showing them sharing a warm embrace. Kris also included a family portrait featuring several members of the Kardashian-Jenner family, including Kim Kardashian, Khloe Kardashian, Kendall Jenner and other loved ones gathered together. Additional pictures highlighted MJ enjoying special family occasions, with one memorable image showing her flashing a peace sign while smiling for the camera. Accompanying the nostalgic photo carousel, Kris wrote a simple yet emotional message: “Happy Heavenly Birthday Mommy. I love you.” The birthday tribute follows the heartbreaking announcement Kris shared on July 16, when she revealed that her beloved mother had passed away. In her earlier message, the reality television personality reflected on the immense impact MJ had on her life and described the deep sorrow of losing her. “There are no words that could ever capture what she has meant to me or the heartbreak of having to say goodbye,” Kris wrote while announcing her mother’s death. She also praised her mother for the values she instilled in her family, saying MJ was the heart of their household and taught her the importance of unconditional love, kindness and cherishing every moment with loved ones. Six Pakistani dramas that gave women powerful stories

Pakistani television has produced many memorable female characters. Some of them stood out because they were not written simply as victims waiting to be rescued. Over the decades, several dramas showed women working, making difficult choices, facing social pressures and rebuilding their lives. These characters were ambitious, emotional and flawed. Most importantly, they were allowed to shape their own stories. Here are six dramas that created some of Pakistani television’s most memorable female leads. Ankahi (1982) Written by Haseena Moin, Ankahi introduced audiences to Sana Murad, played by Shehnaz Sheikh. Sana is confident, outspoken and determined. After her father’s death creates financial problems for the family, she decides to take responsibility. Despite having limited qualifications, she manages to secure a job after an unexpected meeting with a company chairman. Her journey through professional life becomes a mix of humour, challenges and personal growth. Sana’s character was significant because she was not defined by marriage or romance. She wanted to work and create a future for herself. Tanhaiyaan (1985) Haseena Moin’s Tanhaiyaan, directed by Shahzad Khalil, focused on two sisters who suddenly lose their parents and their family home. Played by Marina Khan and Shehnaz Sheikh, the sisters are forced to rebuild their lives independently. The drama presented women earning their own income without treating their decision to work as something unusual. Their struggles were balanced with friendship, humour and everyday challenges. That combination helped the drama remain popular long after its original broadcast. Maat (2011) Umera Ahmad’s Maat followed two sisters whose different priorities eventually take them in completely different directions. Saba Qamar played Saman, a woman strongly attracted to wealth, comfort and social status. Her sister Aiman, played by Aamina Sheikh, takes a quieter path. Aiman is repeatedly underestimated and overlooked. She faces difficult circumstances but continues building her life with patience and resilience. As the story progresses, the sisters’ fortunes change dramatically. The drama explores how ambition, relationships and personal choices can shape a person’s future. Durr-e-Shehwar (2012) Durr-e-Shehwar explored marriage from a perspective that was rarely shown without romanticising sacrifice. The central character enters marriage expecting affection and companionship. Instead, she faces emotional distance from her husband and hostility from her mother-in-law. The story is later viewed through the eyes of her daughter, Shandana. She initially believes her parents had a perfect marriage. She eventually discovers the struggles her mother endured. The drama raises questions about compromise, expectations and the sacrifices women make to preserve relationships. Digest Writer (2014) Saba Qamar played Fareeda, a young woman whose ambitions are often overshadowed by the expectations placed on her family’s son. Writing becomes Fareeda’s escape and her way of expressing herself. She begins publishing stories under the name Rashk-e-Hina. Her talent eventually attracts the attention of a television producer, giving her an opportunity to enter the drama industry. However, success does not come easily. Fareeda faces professional rivalry, betrayal and pressure from her family. The drama presents ambition as something meaningful while also showing the personal cost of pursuing a career in a difficult environment. Udaari (2016) Udaari tackled one of the most sensitive subjects in Pakistani television. The story follows Zebo, whose childhood is shattered by abuse. However, the drama does not define her entire identity through her trauma. Instead, Zebo gradually finds the courage to speak about what happened to her. Her mother also undergoes a major transformation. After realising the danger her daughter faces, she chooses to protect Zebo and rebuild their lives. Meera, a singer living nearby, also becomes an important source of support. One of the drama’s most powerful moments comes when Zebo confronts her abuser in court. Rather than accepting shame for what happened to her, she identifies herself as a survivor. Across four decades, these dramas demonstrate how Pakistani television has portrayed women in changing ways. From Sana’s determination to build a career to Zebo’s courage to seek justice, these characters were given stories beyond romance and victimhood.

Justin Greaves’ unbeaten fifty lifts West Indies to 239-5 against Pakistan

PORT OF SPAIN: Justin Greaves produced a composed unbeaten half-century to guide the West Indies to 239-5 at stumps on the opening day of the second Test against Pakistan, putting the hosts in a strong position after rain and fading light curtailed play. Greaves remained unbeaten on 64, while experienced all-rounder Roston Chase was solid on 36 not out, with the pair steering the Caribbean side through the closing stages after Pakistan struck at regular intervals. Earlier, Brandon King laid the foundation for the innings with an impressive 46, helping the West Indies recover from early setbacks before narrowly missing out on a well-deserved half-century. Pakistan’s bowlers worked hard on a surface that offered occasional assistance but struggled to build sustained pressure as partnerships frustrated the visitors throughout the day. Fast bowler Mohammad Ali emerged as Pakistan’s most successful bowler, claiming two wickets with disciplined line and length. Ubaid Shah, Ali Usman, and veteran spinner Sajid Khan picked up one wicket each, ensuring Pakistan stayed in the contest despite West Indies’ steady progress. The opening day’s play was interrupted by rain and poor light, limiting action to just 74 overs instead of a full day’s schedule. The frequent stoppages disrupted the rhythm of both teams and prevented Pakistan from fully capitalising whenever they gained momentum. With five wickets still in hand, the West Indies will look to extend their first-innings total beyond 350 when play resumes on Tuesday. Greaves and Chase will be aiming to convert their unbeaten partnership into a match-defining stand. Pakistan, meanwhile, will target an early breakthrough on the second morning to expose the lower order and prevent the hosts from taking complete control of the contest. The second day’s opening session is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the direction of the Test, with both teams aware that a strong first-innings performance could prove decisive in the battle for series momentum.

The longtime friends shared a playful teaser on social media, leaving followers guessing about the project they have been quietly working on together. On August 2, Karan Johar took to Instagram to celebrate Friendship Day by posting a video featuring Shah Rukh Khan. In the clip, the Bollywood superstar is seen singing the classic Hindi song “Mil Gaya Hum Ko Saathi,” adding a nostalgic touch to the occasion. Alongside the footage, Johar shared a cryptic message teasing an upcoming announcement. The filmmaker wrote over the video: “Our best friend has a new best friend … nice friendship day gift bhai (brother). Who is it?!” The post immediately sparked speculation among fans, many of whom assumed the duo was preparing to announce a new film together. Others wondered whether the teaser was related to an advertisement, a digital campaign or another creative collaboration. The comments section quickly filled with excitement and requests for another Shah Rukh-Karan film. One fan wrote: “Can Karan make a film with Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol? We fans have been waiting for eleven years.” Another commented: “Best gift on Friendship Day.” A third fan added: “Just like the Guru Purnima post, I thought this was your next movie announcement, but anything you guys do is special. Waiting to see what this is about!!!” The latest teaser comes only weeks after Johar shared a heartfelt tribute to Shah Rukh Khan on Guru Purnima, describing the actor as his mentor and recalling how their friendship shaped his filmmaking journey. In that emotional post, Johar remembered one of his earliest conversations with Shah Rukh during a trip to Switzerland. He wrote: “Switzerland … I was looking at the mountains (pretending to be homesick and seeking sympathy). He came to me and said Tu director banega aur teri pehli film main karoonga.’ (You will become a director and I will do your first film). I thought to myself… he’s probably low on oxygen and may not completely know what he’s saying.” Johar went on to thank Shah Rukh for always believing in him as a filmmaker, referring to the superstar as his “guru.” Their friendship has produced several successful films over the years, making them one of Bollywood’s most celebrated actor-director partnerships. Professionally, both stars have busy schedules ahead. Karan Johar is preparing to return as host of the second season of The Traitors, which is scheduled to premiere on Prime Video on August 13. Meanwhile, Shah Rukh Khan is gearing up for one of the biggest projects of his career, King, in which he will share the screen with his daughter Suhana Khan for the first time. The highly anticipated film is currently slated for release on December 24, 2026. Although neither Shah Rukh Khan nor Karan Johar has revealed what their Friendship Day teaser is actually about, the cryptic post has already generated widespread excitement, with fans eagerly awaiting an official announcement from the iconic duo.
