The Punjab government has introduced a new law for vehicle scrapping, allowing unusable and damaged vehicles to be legally disposed of through registered scrapping facilities. The move aims to regulate the disposal of old vehicles and remove unfit vehicles from roads across the province.

According to reports, Punjab Governor Saleem Haider issued the Motor Vehicles Amendment Ordinance, which provides a legal framework for scrapping vehicles that are no longer fit for use.

Under the new ordinance, vehicles without valid fitness certificates may also be sent for scrapping. The law includes vehicles that have been severely damaged in accidents or destroyed by fire and are considered beyond repair.

The new regulations allow vehicle owners to voluntarily apply for scrapping if they no longer want to keep their vehicles. However, the process must only be completed through officially registered vehicle scrapping facilities to ensure proper disposal and prevent misuse.

Officials believe the new system will help improve road safety by reducing the number of unsafe vehicles operating on roads. Old and poorly maintained vehicles can contribute to accidents, environmental pollution, and increased risks for drivers and passengers.

The ordinance also introduces a more organized approach to vehicle disposal, ensuring that scrapped vehicles are handled through approved channels rather than informal methods. Registered scrapping facilities will be responsible for carrying out the process according to legal requirements.

Transport experts have welcomed measures aimed at removing dangerous vehicles from circulation, saying that proper vehicle inspection and disposal systems are essential for safer roads and better environmental management.

The implementation of the new law is expected to impact owners of old, damaged, and unfit vehicles across Punjab. Vehicle owners will now have a legal option to dispose of vehicles that are no longer economically repairable or safe to operate.

The government is expected to issue further guidelines regarding the registration of scrapping facilities and the detailed procedure for vehicle owners in the coming days.

The new vehicle scrapping ordinance represents a significant change in Punjab’s transport regulations, with authorities focusing on road safety, environmental protection, and better management of end-of-life vehicles.

    HYDERABAD: Female students have secured several top positions in the Class X annual examinations conducted by the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Hyderabad, with the results being announced after a delay of nearly one month. The results for both Science and General groups were released late Thursday, providing students with the long-awaited outcome of their examinations. In the Science Group, Sarah, daughter of Nisar Ahmed, from Foundation Grammar High School, Tando Allahyar, claimed the top position by securing 991 marks. Aswad Amir of Government High School No 1, Matli, stood second with 986 marks, while Mukarrama Abid of St Mary’s Convent Girls Higher Secondary School, Hyderabad, secured third position with 982 marks. A total of 78,935 candidates had registered for the Science Group examinations. Of these, 77,703 students appeared. Among the candidates who took the examination, 10,799 achieved A1 grade, while 40,769 secured A grade. Another 17,248 students obtained B grade, 3,816 received C grade and 239 were placed in D grade. The board declared 4,781 candidates unsuccessful. Results of 32 students were withheld because of reported use of unfair means and other reasons. The General Group also produced strong performances by female students. Wajihullah Khan of Deaf Reach Higher Secondary School secured first position with 873 marks. Habiba from Government Girls High School, Latifabad Unit No 6, Hyderabad, secured second position with 865 marks. Her schoolmate Halima stood third with 861 marks. The General Group had 1,570 registered candidates, of whom 1,488 appeared in the examinations. Three candidates achieved A1 grade, while 332 obtained A grade. A total of 808 students secured B grade, 227 received C grade and 18 were placed in D grade.

    President Donald Trump lashed out on Monday after Iran denied it was holding talks with the United States. He declared in an angry social media post that the American military blockade would continue until there was a deal or what he called total surrender. Trump called Iran duplicitous for openly saying it was not negotiating. He wrote that whether Iran wants to admit it or not, the two sides are talking about a problem that Iran has caused for decades. His post came after Iran denied direct talks were happening, even though Trump had said talks would occur when he called off a threatened bombing campaign over the weekend. Iran’s foreign ministry said on Monday that its only talks were with Oman, focused on sharing control of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for global oil trade. Trump insisted Iran had asked for talks, but was now giving what he called usual excuses about controlling Hormuz. He said the strait is already fully controlled by the US Navy, and that nothing would pass through unless Iran agreed to a deal or surrendered completely. Trump launched the war against Iran together with Israel in February. The original goals included destroying Iran’s nuclear industry and missile programs. Pakistani officials told Turkish news agency Anadolu that no date or location has yet been finalised for the resumption of direct US-Iran talks. Under one proposal, Iran would reopen the Strait of Hormuz while the US would lift its blockade of Iranian ports. According to a CNN report, a senior US Central Command officer sent an email to military analysts asking for creative and unconventional ideas to pressure and punish Iran. This unusual request suggests Washington may have limited options left to force Iran into an agreement. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei repeated that Iran is not holding any current talks with the US. He said reaching an agreement with Oman would not be enough to reopen the strait as long as what he called American aggression continues. He also said the Strait of Hormuz will never return to its pre-war state. Tensions on the ground continued to rise. Iran’s Revolutionary Guard said it shot down a US drone over the Strait of Hormuz. Several oil tankers rerouted away from the Bab al-Mandab Strait to avoid attacks by Yemeni forces, adding millions of dollars to shipping costs. An explosion was also reported near a tanker off the coast of Oman. Israel launched two days of naval and ground military drills as regional tensions grew. Separately, Israel continued attacks on southern Lebanon despite an existing ceasefire, targeting several towns with drones and artillery.     Six bullet-riddled bodies found across Balochistan

    QUETTA: A wave of violence and tragic accidents swept across Balochistan on Tuesday, as authorities recovered six bullet-riddled bodies from four districts while eight more people, including two women, lost their lives in separate incidents of gunfire, a roadside explosion, a fuel tanker fire and a deadly road crash. According to police officials, the bodies of six unidentified men were recovered from Kalat, Mastung, Panjgur and Kharan, prompting multiple investigations into the killings. Three of the bodies were discovered in different areas of Kalat district. Two were found dumped in the Rej locality after local authorities received information from residents, while another body was recovered from the Chhapar area. All three were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital for identification, but officials said their identities had not yet been established. In Mastung, police recovered another unidentified man’s body from the Jungle area after receiving reports from local residents. Preliminary investigations suggest the deceased may have been a drug addict, though authorities said the exact cause and circumstances of his death are still being examined. The fifth body was found in Nowan Kur, Panjgur, where police believe the victim was shot dead by unidentified attackers before his body was abandoned. In Kharan, authorities recovered the body of a man who had reportedly been abducted by armed men two days earlier after they stormed his home. His body was later found on the outskirts of the city with bullet wounds. Separate incidents elsewhere in the province added to the death toll. In Kalat’s Mangochar area, unidentified gunmen opened fire on a family travelling from Zhob to Karachi after their driver allegedly failed to stop at a signal. Two women were killed in the attack, while a child sustained injuries and was taken to hospital. Meanwhile, an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated near the N-65 National Highway in Mastung, killing a driver and injuring five others. The explosion severely damaged an LPG tanker and two trailers. In Quetta, two people were burned to death after an oil tanker caught fire at a petrol pump near Sariab Customs. In another tragedy, three people were killed in a head-on collision between two vehicles on the Quetta-Karachi National Highway in the Surab area. Police have launched investigations into the shootings and explosions, while authorities continue efforts to identify the unidentified victims and determine those responsible for the attacks.

    PML-N secures first wins in AJK refugee seats

    Unofficial and provisional results have started coming in following the completion of polling for the second phase of the 2026 Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly elections. Early results indicate that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has secured victory on two refugee constituencies, while vote counting continues across the remaining seats. Polling was held for eight constituencies in the Muzaffarabad Division and 12 refugee seats reserved for Kashmiri migrants living in different cities across Pakistan. Voting in the Muzaffarabad Division began at 8:00 a.m. and, due to high voter turnout, the Election Commission extended polling by one hour until 6:00 p.m. Polling for the refugee constituencies concluded at 5:00 p.m. Early Results from Muzaffarabad Division In LA-25 Neelum Valley-I, with results from 10 of 143 polling stations, PML-N candidate Shah Ghulam Qadir was leading with 1,364 votes, followed by Abid Afzal of the All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference with 951 votes. In LA-26 Neelum Valley-II, after results from 8 of 135 polling stations, PPP candidate Mian Abdul Waheed led with 1,157 votes, while PML-N’s Shah Ghulam Qadir had 940 votes. In LA-29 Muzaffarabad-III, results from 2 of 138 polling stations showed Barrister Iftikhar Ali Gilani of PML-N leading with 379 votes, ahead of PPP’s Sardar Mukhtar Khan, who secured 353 votes. In LA-30 Muzaffarabad-IV, PML-N’s Mustafa Bashir Abbasi was ahead with 247 votes, while PPP’s Mubashir Munir Awan had 206 votes, according to results from 2 of 129 polling stations. In LA-31 Muzaffarabad-V, PML-N candidate Saqib Majeed Raja led with 2,934 votes, while PPP’s Chaudhry Latif Akbar received 1,660 votes, based on results from 14 of 249 polling stations. Refugee Seats The first complete unofficial results declared PML-N victorious in two refugee constituencies. In LA-43 Kashmir Valley-IV, PML-N’s Muhammad Yasin Lone won the seat with 1,276 votes, defeating PPP candidate Javed Butt, who received 563 votes. In LA-44 Kashmir Valley-V, PML-N’s Muhammad Ahmad Raza Qadri was declared the winner with 1,700 votes, while Mehr-un-Nisa of the All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference secured 650 votes. Vote Counting Continues In LA-34 Jammu-I, PML-N’s Nasir Hussain Dar was leading with 1,690 votes after results from 51 of 131 polling stations, while independent candidate Raja Riaz Ahmad had 741 votes. In LA-35 Jammu-II, PML-N’s Chaudhry Muhammad Ismail maintained a commanding lead with 18,788 votes, followed by independent candidate Sardar Muhammad Ghayas with 5,041 votes, based on results from 100 of 142 polling stations. In LA-36 Jammu-III, PML-N’s Muhammad Ahsan Raza led with 10,002 votes, while PPP’s Ahsan Ismail had 4,756 votes after counting at 50 of 140 polling stations. In LA-37 Jammu-IV, PML-N candidate Maryam Javed was ahead with 19,014 votes, while independent candidate Usman Aleem had 14,734 votes, according to results from 121 of 185 polling stations. In LA-38 Jammu-V, PML-N’s Zeeshan Ali was leading with 5,524 votes, narrowly ahead of Muhammad Akbar Chaudhry of the Muslim League AJK, who had 4,988 votes, based on results from 49 of 115 polling stations. In LA-39 Jammu-VI, PML-N’s Raja Muhammad Siddique secured 3,176 votes, while PPP’s Chaudhry Fakhar Zaman followed with 945 votes after counting at 41 of 157 polling stations. In LA-40 Kashmir Valley-I, PPP candidate Aamir Abdul Ghaffar led with 1,178 votes, while PML-N’s Muhammad Naeem Khan had 65 votes, according to results from 23 of 47 polling stations. In LA-41 Kashmir Valley-II, PML-N’s Muhammad Aamir Shah was ahead with 922 votes, while independent candidate Saba Diwan received 556 votes after counting at 13 of 19 polling stations. In LA-42 Kashmir Valley-III, PML-N candidate Syed Shaukat Ali Shah led with 1,326 votes, followed by PPP’s Muhammad Asim Sharif with 682 votes after results from 13 of 43 polling stations. The Election Commission had established 1,483 polling stations across the Muzaffarabad Division. Polling in LA-27 Muzaffarabad-II was postponed because of severe weather and landslides. Voting for the refugee constituencies was held in several cities across Pakistan. Polling for Jammu-I and Kashmir Valley-I took place in Karachi, while Rawalpindi and Islamabad hosted polling for LA-43 Kashmir Valley-IV, LA-44 Kashmir Valley-V, and LA-39 Jammu-VI.
