ISLAMABAD: Saudi Arabia’s new airline, Riyadh Air, is set to launch its long-awaited flight operations to Pakistan, with the first service scheduled for August 14, coinciding with Pakistan’s Independence Day.

The airline will begin direct flights to Islamabad on Friday, marking a new step in air connectivity between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. Services to Lahore are scheduled to start on August 18, according to details shared ahead of the launch.

Under the initial schedule, Riyadh Air will operate seven flights every week to Islamabad and three weekly flights to Lahore, giving passengers more options for direct travel between the two countries.

The launch is expected to strengthen links between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, which have extensive business, tourism and people-to-people connections. A large Pakistani community also lives and works in Saudi Arabia, making regular and convenient air services particularly important.

Riyadh Air plans to operate Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft on its Pakistan services. The wide-body aircraft is designed for long-haul routes and is expected to provide passengers with a modern travel experience.

The airline’s entry into the Pakistani market is also being viewed as potentially beneficial for the country’s aviation and employment sectors. Sources said the arrival of the new carrier could create new job opportunities and support related businesses connected to aviation and passenger services.

The launch comes as Saudi Arabia continues to expand its aviation sector as part of its broader efforts to strengthen international connectivity and develop Riyadh as a major global travel hub.

For Pakistan, the new routes could provide another boost to direct connectivity with the Gulf region while increasing competition in the market.

The timing of the launch has also added symbolic significance. Beginning operations on Pakistan’s Independence Day gives the airline’s arrival an additional diplomatic and commercial dimension, linking a major new aviation service with an important national occasion.

The Islamabad route will become Riyadh Air’s first connection with Pakistan, followed shortly by Lahore.

With 10 weekly flights planned across the two Pakistani cities, the new service is expected to offer greater flexibility to travellers while strengthening the growing aviation relationship between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.

The launch will now put Riyadh Air’s ambitious international expansion plans into operation in one of South Asia’s most important aviation markets.

Fahid told police that he received a call from Hina’s father-in-law at around 6:53pm on Thursday. He was informed about an emergency at the apartment. He then reached the residence with other family members at around 7:23pm. The complainant said he found his sister’s body in the bathroom. He alleged that Hina had been subjected to severe violence and mistreatment. He also raised suspicion that she may have been given a poisonous substance before her death. The FIR was registered under Sections 302 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code. The complaint states that Hina married the main suspect in November 2025. An initial postmortem examination reportedly found a strangulation mark around her neck, an injury below her right lip and bleeding. Police have detained Hina’s husband and a domestic servant in connection with the murder. Her father-in-law is also being questioned as part of the investigation.

In one email to Epstein released among the files, Siad wrote in broken English that in this business he sometimes catches fish quickly and other times catches none, a comment referencing his work finding models. However, in an earlier television interview, Siad said he had not known that women were being abused by Epstein, adding that he trusted Epstein and believed he was a professional person. Brunel founded the modelling agency MC2 Model Management with funding from Epstein and was suspected of helping transport and house young women and girls on Epstein’s behalf.     More than 33,000 candidates will appear for the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) in Sindh as students compete for 5,100 medical and dental seats across the province. The entrance examination for admission to medical colleges will be held on Sunday, August 16, across various centres in Sindh. The MDCAT examination in the province will be conducted under the supervision of Sukkur IBA Testing Service. According to Vice Chancellor Sukkur IBA Professor Dr Asif Sheikh, more than 33,000 candidates are expected to participate in the test, including 20,934 female candidates and over 12,600 male candidates. Vice Chancellor Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) Dr Siraj Memon stated that a total of 5,100 seats have been allocated for medical education in Sindh. These include 2,300 MBBS seats and 2,800 BDS seats, including seats reserved under different quota categories. This year, the responsibility for managing medical college admissions has been assigned to Jinnah Sindh Medical University. The university will oversee the admission process following the MDCAT results. Karachi will have the highest number of candidates appearing for the examination, with 10,661 students registered. Among them, 8,186 are female candidates and 2,475 are male candidates. Other major examination centres include Hyderabad, where 9,470 candidates will participate, including 5,287 female and 4,183 male students. In addition, 3,066 candidates will appear in Larkana, 2,067 in Mirpurkhas, 2,511 in Shaheed Benazirabad, and 5,462 in Sukkur. An additional examination centre has also been established in Islamabad, where 300 candidates will take part. The MDCAT centre in Karachi will be established at NED University. Special seating arrangements have been made for parents at the adjacent banquet facility. Candidates have been instructed to reach their examination centres by 6:30 a.m., while the test will begin at 10:00 a.m. The MDCAT will consist of multiple-choice questions carrying a total of 180 marks, with a duration of three hours. Candidates seeking admission to medical colleges will require a minimum of 55 percent marks, while dental college applicants must secure at least 50 percent marks. There will be no negative marking in the examination. Sukkur IBA officials stated that the answer key will be uploaded after the test. To ensure transparency, students will be allowed to solve the paper using a carbon copy, which they can keep for verification purposes. The MDCAT results are expected to be announced by August 22.
