Actress Samantha Morton has shared heartbreaking news about her personal life, revealing that she is grieving the loss of her sister just over a year after the death of her father. In a candid interview with The Sunday Times, the The Odyssey star spoke about how these recent tragedies have reopened old emotional wounds, saying that trauma is something she continues to live with every day.

Morton, 49, revealed that her sister died on April 22 at the age of 53. She also shared that she is still dealing with the coroner’s process, describing it as another painful chapter in an already difficult period of her life. The actress explained that she lost her biological father around 18 months earlier, making the back-to-back family losses especially challenging.

Raised in foster care after growing up with parents who struggled with alcoholism and mental illness, she experienced homelessness and abuse at a young age. According to the actress, those experiences shaped who she is, but they also left emotional scars that never fully disappear. She said, “The past never leaves you,” explaining that trauma becomes part of a person’s life and continues to evolve over time.

She explained that surviving her childhood required constant strength, adding that every day she wakes up and prays for the ability to keep moving forward. Her honesty has resonated with many fans who admire her willingness to discuss difficult subjects that are often kept private.

Morton’s personal experiences also influenced her performance as Circe in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. She revealed that she drew on the pain suffered by the women in her own family while portraying the powerful character, making the role deeply personal. Critics have praised her emotionally charged performance, with many calling it one of the film’s standout moments.

Throughout her career, Morton has been recognized not only for her acting talent but also for speaking honestly about childhood trauma and the importance of protecting vulnerable children. She has often used her platform to advocate for change while encouraging conversations about healing and survival.

Although she continues to face profound grief, Samantha Morton remains determined to move forward. Her latest interview offers a powerful reminder that healing is rarely straightforward and that even those who appear strong can carry lifelong emotional burdens. By sharing her story with such honesty, the award-winning actress hopes to show that acknowledging pain is not a sign of weakness but an important step toward healing.

Police register kidnapping case after six-year-old…

Rawalpindi police have registered a kidnapping case after an extensive day-long search failed to locate a six-year-old girl who disappeared near Committee Chowk, prompting authorities to launch a formal criminal investigation while continuing search efforts. The missing child, identified as Hareem Umair, vanished near Landa Bazaar on Thursday morning after her family, who had travelled from Lahore to visit relatives in Rawalpindi, prepared to return home. According to police, her father, Umair Ali, realised she was missing while helping his children into the family vehicle following heavy overnight rainfall. The disappearance triggered a large-scale rescue operation led by Rescue 1122 amid concerns that the child may have been swept away by fast-flowing rainwater in the area’s drainage system. Heavy rainfall had caused stormwater drains and Nullah Leh to overflow, complicating search efforts. Rescue teams divided the search area into four sectors, covering more than four kilometres from the site of the disappearance through Bohar Bazaar Chowk, Colonel Maqbool Chowk, Liaquat Road, Gawalmandi, and extending to Moti Mahal Bridge. Officials searched both open and covered sections of the drainage network. According to Rescue 1122, two specialised water rescue teams, consisting of 12 rescuers and five emergency vehicles, participated in the operation. The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) also assisted in the search. Despite the extensive effort, no trace of the child was found before the operation was temporarily suspended after sunset due to poor visibility. Officials said the search would resume the following morning. Speaking to the media, Hareem’s father said he immediately searched nearby streets and questioned security personnel and relatives after discovering that his daughter was missing. He told police that the street was submerged under approximately one foot of rainwater at the time of the incident, leaving uncertainty over whether the child had been swept away or abducted. Following the unsuccessful search, relatives and local residents staged a protest at Bohar Bazaar Chowk, demanding intensified efforts to recover the missing girl. The demonstration continued for more than an hour before police assured protesters that every available resource would be used to continue both the investigation and the search operation. Waris Khan Police subsequently registered a First Information Report (FIR) under Section 363 of the Pakistan Penal Code, which relates to kidnapping. Authorities say both rescue operations and the criminal investigation remain ongoing as efforts continue to locate the missing child.

    Jamaat-e-Islami announces nationwide protest again…

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Emir Hafiz Naeem Ur Rehman has announced a nationwide protest against the petroleum levy on Friday, August 7, urging citizens across Pakistan to participate in what he described as a decisive demonstration against rising fuel taxes and worsening economic conditions. According to a statement issued from the party’s headquarters in Mansoorah, preparations for the nationwide campaign have entered their final phase. Jamaat-e-Islami leaders and workers are actively engaging with communities through corner meetings, public awareness campaigns, and outreach efforts aimed at mobilizing citizens for the protest. Hafiz Naeem Ur Rehman said the demonstrations are not driven by political interests but are intended to represent the concerns of ordinary Pakistanis struggling with inflation, unemployment, and what he called an unbearable tax burden. He maintained that the movement seeks economic relief for the public rather than political gain. The JI chief announced that he will address a women’s protest rally on August 6 at Wahdat Road in Lahore, organized by the party’s women’s wing. He said women would also raise their voices against government economic policies and support the campaign demanding relief from rising living costs. Appealing directly to the country’s youth, Hafiz Naeem urged motorcyclists to join the demonstrations on August 7 and participate peacefully. He stated that protesters would stage sit-ins on major highways and temporarily block roads connecting districts to press the government to address public demands. However, he emphasized that emergency vehicles, including ambulances and rescue services, would be allowed to pass without obstruction. The Jamaat-e-Islami leader also warned the government against interfering with citizens’ constitutional and democratic right to peaceful protest. He said any attempt to suppress the demonstrations would be the responsibility of the authorities. Hafiz Naeem Ur Rehman called on the government to immediately abolish the petroleum levy, review expensive agreements with Independent Power Producers (IPPs), eliminate electricity load-shedding, and implement effective measures to control inflation. He added that the party’s peaceful protest movement would continue until what he described as unjust economic policies are reversed. The planned demonstrations are expected to take place across multiple cities and districts, making them one of Jamaat-e-Islami’s largest nationwide protest campaigns focused on economic issues and public relief in recent months.

Gold Prices surge by Rs10,000 per tola in Pakistan

Gold prices in Pakistan witnessed a dramatic increase on Wednesday, with the price of 24-karat gold rising by Rs10,000 per tola, marking one of the biggest single-day jumps in recent months. The sharp increase has pushed the domestic gold market to a new record level, adding to concerns among consumers, investors, and jewellery traders about the continued rise in precious metal prices. According to the All Pakistan Gems and Jewellers Association (APGJA) the price of one tola of gold has climbed to Rs437,936 following the latest increase. The association also reported that the price of 10 grams of 24-karat gold rose by Rs8,573 reaching Rs375,459 The latest surge reflects the ongoing volatility in both domestic and international bullion markets. Gold prices have remained under the spotlight in recent weeks due to global economic uncertainty, fluctuations in currency exchange rates, and increased investor demand for safe-haven assets. Although the association did not specify the exact reason behind the latest increase, analysts believe that a combination of rising international gold prices and the depreciation of the Pakistani rupee has contributed significantly to the record-high rates. The steep rise in gold prices is expected to have a major impact on Pakistan’s jewellery market. Many consumers traditionally purchase gold for weddings, gifts, and investment purposes. However, with prices reaching unprecedented levels, experts believe that demand for gold jewellery may decline as buyers postpone purchases or opt for lighter and more affordable designs. Jewellers have also expressed concerns that the continued rise in prices could slow business activity, particularly during the ongoing wedding season. Higher costs may discourage customers from making large purchases, affecting retailers and manufacturers across the country. At the same time, investors who view gold as a secure store of value may continue to buy the precious metal despite the rising prices. Financial experts note that gold often performs well during periods of economic uncertainty, inflation, and geopolitical tensions. As investors seek safer assets, demand for gold increases, driving prices higher in international markets. Since Pakistan imports gold and its domestic prices are closely linked to global trends and exchange rate movements, local prices often rise in response to international developments. The record increase also highlights the broader economic challenges facing Pakistan, where inflation and currency fluctuations continue to influence the prices of imported goods and commodities. Consumers are already coping with higher living costs, and the latest jump in gold prices adds another burden for those planning to invest in or purchase the precious metal. Market observers will closely monitor future movements in international bullion prices and the value of the Pakistani rupee to assess whether gold prices continue their upward trend or stabilize in the coming days. Until then, buyers and traders are expected to remain cautious as the market adjusts to the latest record-breaking increase.
