BANGKOK, Thailand — Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health has implemented a mandatory 21-day quarantine requirement for all travelers arriving from the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda, citing increased arrivals from the two Central African nations and concerns regarding compliance with previous monitoring protocols, according to official statements released on Tuesday.

Dr. Somlerk Jeungsmarn, Permanent Secretary for Public Health, announced that the measure was introduced following observations that more individuals were arriving from the two countries, with some failing to report daily to health officials as previously required under voluntary monitoring arrangements. Under the new protocol, all passengers arriving from the Democratic Republic of the Congo or Uganda will be required to undergo quarantine at the Bamrasnaradura Infectious Diseases Institute in Nonthaburi province for a period of 21 days, corresponding to the maximum incubation period of the Ebola virus.

Authorities indicated that incoming flights from the two countries will be restricted to Suvarnabhumi Airport, Thailand’s primary international gateway, to facilitate centralized screening and quarantine management. The government will cover quarantine costs for travelers arriving within 72 hours of the announcement, while those arriving thereafter will be responsible for associated expenses. Individuals exhibiting symptoms consistent with Ebola infection upon arrival will be transferred immediately to appropriate medical facilities for isolation and treatment.

Dr. Somlerk noted that daily arrivals from the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda had increased from an average of five to seven passengers to more than 10 in recent days, with 19 arrivals recorded on a single day most recently. The Ministry of Public Health indicated that the mandatory quarantine requirement is intended to both protect public health and potentially reduce travel volumes from the affected regions during the outbreak period.

Dr. Yongyuea Laosirithaworn, Director-General of Communicable Diseases at the Department of Disease Control, explained that approximately 100 visitors from the two countries had previously been subject to daily symptom reporting requirements, but compliance proved inconsistent. Some individuals did not report as required or failed to remain at their declared accommodations. Officials attempted to address these challenges by escorting non-compliant travelers directly to their hotels, but encountered resistance from hotel management regarding accommodation of individuals under health monitoring.

Dr. Anek Mungaomklang, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Disease Control, acknowledged that authorities had experienced difficulties tracking the movements of five travelers who had not fully cooperated with monitoring requirements. These individuals have since been located and assessed; officials confirmed they presented no symptoms of Ebola infection and posed no identified risk to public health. The resources expended in locating these individuals contributed to the decision to implement more stringent quarantine measures.

The World Health Organization has classified the Ebola situation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern, prompting coordinated global response measures. Ebola virus disease is a severe hemorrhagic fever transmitted through direct contact with blood or bodily fluids from infected individuals, particularly those who are symptomatic or severely ill. Transmission most commonly occurs among household contacts, healthcare workers providing care without appropriate protective equipment, or individuals involved in burial practices for deceased victims.

Unlike airborne pathogens such as SARS-CoV-2 or measles, Ebola does not spread readily through casual contact or respiratory droplets, making outbreaks more manageable through isolation, contact tracing, and infection prevention measures when implemented promptly. Early clinical manifestations typically include sudden high fever, profound fatigue, muscle pain, headache, nausea, and vomiting. Advanced cases may involve hemorrhagic complications including abnormal internal or external bleeding. While the disease carries a significant mortality rate when untreated, the distinctive symptom profile facilitates identification and containment efforts.

Thai health authorities have emphasized that no cases of Ebola have been reported within Thailand to date. The implementation of mandatory quarantine for travelers from affected regions represents a precautionary public health measure designed to detect potential cases early while minimizing disruption to legitimate travel and trade.

For residents and travelers in Thailand, health authorities recommend maintaining awareness of Ebola symptoms and seeking prompt medical evaluation if fever or other concerning signs develop following travel from affected regions.       Fans of Landman have plenty to look forward to as the Paramount+ drama moves toward its highly anticipated third season. The Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace-created series has officially been renewed, and recent updates suggest that the next chapter of the hit oil drama is taking shape. Paramount+ confirmed the renewal in December 2025 after Landman delivered strong viewing numbers for the streaming service. The third season will continue to be executive produced by Sheridan, Wallace, David C. Glasser and several other members of the creative team.  The biggest question for viewers has been when the new episodes will arrive. Paramount+ has confirmed that season 3 is coming, but the streamer has not announced an official premiere date. Its own update notes that both previous seasons launched in November, although that pattern does not guarantee the same release window for the new season.  Production timing has also become an important part of the conversation. Earlier expectations pointed toward a quicker return, but reports indicate that filming has been pushed later than initially anticipated. That has raised the possibility that viewers may have to wait until 2027 rather than seeing the season in late 2026.  There is, however, plenty of story left to explore. Season 2 ended with major changes for Billy Bob Thornton’s Tommy Norris. After being pushed out of M-Tex, Tommy joined forces with his son Cooper and Danny Morrell to establish a new oil business. However, Paramount+ had not yet officially announced the complete season 3 cast in its April update.  Christian Wallace has previously expressed enthusiasm about continuing the series, saying there is still plenty of story to tell. He suggested that the show has significant “runway” remaining as long as the characters and story continue to develop in worthwhile ways.  That approach could make season 3 particularly exciting. Tommy is no longer simply trying to survive inside someone else’s oil empire. He is now building something of his own, while facing new business dangers and complicated family relationships. For now, fans will have to remain patient for an official premiere announcement. What is clear is that Landman is not going anywhere. With Paramount+ backing another season and the story entering a completely new phase, season 3 could become one of the show’s biggest chapters yet.

    GUJRAT: The Agriculture (Extension) Department has seized counterfeit DAP fertiliser worth more than Rs20 million during a raid at Hasan Rice Mills in Mouza Mohla, Gujrat, in what officials described as a major crackdown on the illegal fertiliser trade. The operation was conducted under the supervision of Director Agriculture (Extension) Gujrat Division Dr Irfanullah Warraich by Assistant Director Agriculture (Extension) and Assistant Controller Fertilizer Muhammad Athar Latif. During the raid, officials inspected the premises and collected samples of suspected DAP fertiliser for laboratory testing. They also sealed 1,140 bags of fertiliser, each weighing 50 kilograms, with an estimated value of Rs18.24 million. According to the Agriculture Department, laboratory analysis later confirmed that the fertiliser was counterfeit. Officials said subsequent investigations revealed that a total of 1,270 bags of fake DAP fertiliser, worth approximately Rs20.32 million, were linked to the operation. Out of these, 1,244 bags were taken into police custody as case property. A case has been registered against Muhammad Azmat and other suspects under the Punjab Fertilizer Control Act, 2025. Police also arrested Ghulam Hussain, the in-charge of Hasan Rice Mills, during the raid. The department said the crackdown was aimed at protecting farmers from substandard agricultural inputs that could adversely affect crop production and cause financial losses. Officials added that counterfeit fertilisers not only reduce crop yields but also undermine farmers’ confidence in certified agricultural products. They urged growers to purchase fertilisers only from authorised dealers and to report any suspicious products or illegal storage facilities to the Agriculture Department. The department said further investigations are underway to trace the source of the counterfeit fertiliser, identify other individuals involved in its manufacture and distribution, and determine whether similar consignments had been supplied to other markets in the region. Agriculture officials reaffirmed their commitment to continuing strict enforcement against the production, storage and sale of fake fertilisers to safeguard farmers’ interests and ensure the availability of quality agricultural inputs across Punjab.

    ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has fixed September 16 for hearing a contempt petition filed by Uzma Khanum, sister of PTI founder and former prime minister Imran Khan, over the alleged non-implementation of the court’s order regarding his medical treatment. The petition was submitted after the government took Imran Khan to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) instead of shifting him to Shifa International Hospital, as directed by the Supreme Court in its August 18 order. The court had also directed arrangements for regular meetings between Imran Khan and his family. PTI had challenged the government’s decision and filed a contempt petition through Uzma Khanum. The petition was returned after the Supreme Court registrar raised certain objections. The party later resubmitted it after addressing the objections. Speaking outside the Supreme Court, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan said the party wanted the matter to be heard at the earliest. He said the PTI founder’s health remained the party’s primary concern. Gohar urged the authorities to facilitate meetings between Imran Khan and his family members. He maintained that the Supreme Court’s August 18 order had not been implemented in its original form. Uzma Khanum also submitted an application seeking an early hearing. She expressed concern over what she described as a deterioration in Imran Khan’s health and argued that further delay could have serious consequences. The application alleged that the government had failed to follow the Supreme Court’s directions. It maintained that if authorities required clarification about the order, they should have approached the court instead of taking a different course of action. The government, meanwhile, has filed a review petition challenging the August 18 order. It has described the directive as discriminatory and sought its reconsideration. Imran Khan was taken to PIMS on August 21 for a medical examination and was later returned to Adiala Jail after doctors declared him medically fit. The government has maintained that security concerns prompted the decision to use PIMS instead of Shifa International Hospital. Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said the security situation involving PTI workers affected the planned transfer. The Supreme Court had also declined an immediate hearing of petitions seeking contempt proceedings and review of its August 18 order. The government’s review petition is therefore expected to be heard according to the court’s schedule. Gohar said PTI wanted Imran Khan’s sister, Dr Uzma, and his personal physician, Dr Faisal Sultan, to be included in the medical board. He also called for the medical tests recommended by Imran Khan’s doctors to be conducted. The PTI chairman said the party was currently focusing on Imran Khan’s health rather than political matters. He described the issue as a humanitarian concern and urged the authorities to implement the Supreme Court’s directions. Gohar also questioned the detention of Imran Khan’s physician, Dr Faisal Sultan, who was taken to Shifa International Hospital. He asked why the doctor was detained for several hours while Imran Khan was not transferred to the same facility. He reiterated that a Supreme Court order should be followed unless the court itself modifies, reviews or suspends it. Gohar said PTI also recognised the importance of security arrangements and did not want any violation of security protocols. However, he claimed the party had not been informed in advance that security concerns would prevent Imran Khan’s transfer to Shifa International Hospital.
