LAHORE: NESPAK, a premier organization of consulting engineers, has set an all-time record in business acquisition by securing 180 new engineering projects, both domestically and internationally, during the fiscal year 2025-26.     Texas Airports review muslim prayer facilities

    Texas Governor Greg Abbott has ordered a review of state grants given to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) and Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) over facilities provided for Muslim travelers. The governor has raised concerns about special facilities for Muslims to perform wudu, the Islamic practice of washing before prayer.  He has described the facilities as possible religious discrimination and has also asked the U.S.  Department of Transportation to review the issue. Review of state funding According to a statement from Abbott’s office, Texas will review state grants given to airport authorities.  Officials will consider whether existing funding should be withdrawn or whether the airports should be prevented from receiving future state funds. Abbott argues that government owned facilities should not provide services that appear to favor one religion over others. Facilities at two airports DFW International Airport is planning a dedicated area where Muslim passengers can perform wudu. At Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport a similar facility has already been created along with a space where passengers can pray. Abbott has asked U.S.  Transportation secretary sean duffy to have the Department of Transportation and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) review the existing and planned facilities at both airports. He has also called for possible legal or corrective action if officials find that federal rules have been violated. Governor raises religious Discrimination Concerns Abbott says both airports receive federal funding and therefore must follow federal laws related to discrimination. He argues that providing facilities specifically for Muslim religious practices could give special treatment to one religious group. He says government owned airports should provide equal treatment and should not favor one religion over another. The governor also repeated his position on social media saying taxpayer funded public facilities should not allow what he considers illegal religious discrimination. What happens next? The issue will now be reviewed by federal transportation officials and the FAA.  Their response could determine whether any action is taken against the airports or their funding. The controversy has also opened a wider debate about religious freedom equal access  and how public facilities should serve passengers from different religious backgrounds. The case could become an important legal and political discussion about whether providing religious accommodations in public spaces is discrimination or simply a way to meet the needs of different groups.

      The Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance has announced a nationwide strike beginning on August 8, warning that transport operations across the country may be significantly disrupted if the government fails to address its key demands. The announcement was made by the alliance’s president, Malik Shehzad Awan, who criticized recent government policies affecting the transport sector and called for immediate corrective measures. Speaking to the media, Malik Shehzad Awan said that transporters are facing increasing financial pressure due to the frequent fluctuations in petroleum prices. He argued that the current system of revising fuel prices on a daily basis has created uncertainty for transport businesses, making it difficult for operators to estimate transportation costs, negotiate freight rates, and manage their daily operations effectively. The alliance has demanded that the government abandon the practice of daily fuel price adjustments and instead adopt a monthly pricing mechanism for petroleum products. According to Awan, fixing fuel prices on a monthly basis would provide greater stability to the transport industry, allowing businesses to plan expenses more efficiently and reducing the uncertainty caused by continuous price changes. He maintained that predictable fuel costs are essential for sustaining commercial transport services and protecting transport operators from unexpected financial losses. In addition to seeking changes in the fuel pricing policy, the alliance has also demanded the resignation of Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik. Malik Shehzad Awan expressed dissatisfaction with the government’s handling of issues related to the petroleum sector, arguing that the concerns of transporters have not been adequately addressed. He claimed that recent policies have increased operational costs and placed an unnecessary burden on transport businesses across Pakistan. Another major demand put forward by the Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance concerns the withholding tax imposed on transport-related transactions. The alliance has urged the government to reduce the withholding tax rate from 7 percent to 2 percent, arguing that the current tax structure is excessive and has significantly increased the financial burden on transport operators. According to the alliance, lowering the tax rate would provide much-needed relief to the industry and improve the financial sustainability of transport businesses, particularly small and medium-sized operators. The transport sector plays a critical role in Pakistan’s economy, serving as the backbone of the country’s supply chain by moving goods between manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers, and consumers. A nationwide strike by transporters could disrupt the movement of essential commodities, industrial raw materials, agricultural products, and imported goods, potentially affecting businesses and consumers alike if the dispute remains unresolved. The alliance has called on the federal government to engage in meaningful dialogue with transport representatives before the scheduled strike date. Its leadership has urged policymakers to reconsider the current fuel pricing mechanism and taxation policies in order to prevent disruption to trade and commercial activities. The transporters maintain that their demands are aimed at ensuring the long-term sustainability of the sector rather than creating difficulties for the public. If negotiations do not produce a satisfactory outcome, the Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance has indicated that transporters across the country will proceed with the nationwide strike on August 8. The proposed shutdown is expected to affect freight services on major highways and commercial routes, potentially disrupting the supply of goods and increasing pressure on businesses dependent on road transport. The alliance has expressed hope that the government will address its concerns before the strike begins, allowing transport operations to continue without interruption.

    Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed that workers associated with the Sutrah Punjab programme be paid their salaries by the fifth of every month. According to an official statement, the chief minister also sought monthly reports from the companies responsible for making payments to the workers to ensure that salaries are being disbursed on time. Maryam Nawaz ordered a zero-tolerance policy against workers who fail to perform their duties. She also directed authorities to develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) to regularly assess workers’ performance and improve the overall efficiency of the programme. The chief minister stressed that special attention should be given to cleanliness at fruit and vegetable markets. She said additional efforts were required to achieve better sanitation results across Punjab. Maryam Nawaz also directed officials to begin washing and cleaning major roads at 5am. She instructed authorities to ensure door-to-door waste collection and maintain proper cleanliness around schools, colleges, universities and hospitals. She further ordered the use of uniform garbage bins and waste bags in markets and commercial areas. Officials were directed to establish specific timings for removing waste from commercial zones and ensure that vacant plots in different areas were also cleaned.

Many of the attendees were students who say the trauma of that day continues to shape their daily lives, including Yusha. She told a local broadcaster that fear still follows her whenever she encounters aircraft. “Even now, if I go to school and see a plane, I feel afraid,” she said. She added that the memory disrupts her sleep and resurfaces in nightmares that place her back in the fire. Yusha was among more than 160 people injured in the crash. She attended a memorial held at a hospital in Dhaka on Tuesday, where several families said they still lack clear answers about how and why the crash happened. Her mother, Yasin Akter, said the accident has changed her daughter in ways that go beyond physical injury. Yusha had once hoped to become a dancer, an ambition her mother says has since faded. “My daughter screams all day and is afraid,” Akter said, explaining that her daughter now associates the sky and passing aircraft with danger. The anniversary gathering highlighted a broader pattern common after major air disasters, where survivors and grieving families continue to seek transparency long after public attention shifts elsewhere. Psychological trauma among child survivors, in particular, tends to persist well beyond the initial recovery period, often requiring sustained mental health support that is not always readily available in the aftermath of large scale emergencies. Aviation authorities in South Asia have faced scrutiny in recent years over oversight of military and civilian flight paths near populated areas, an issue that has resurfaced in public discussion following the Milestone School crash. Analysts who study aviation safety note that incidents involving military aircraft over densely populated zones often prompt renewed debate about flight corridor planning and emergency response coordination, though structural changes can take years to implement even after a high profile disaster. For families like Yusha’s, the anniversary was less about policy debate and more about the everyday reality of raising a child who survived a catastrophe that claimed the lives of classmates and teachers.     Diddy’s prison release date moved forward again …

    Sean “Diddy” Combs is now expected to be released from federal prison sooner than previously anticipated after his projected release date was moved forward once again. The latest update marks the second adjustment in just over a month, reducing the amount of time the music mogul is expected to spend behind bars while his legal appeal remains ongoing.  According to updated records from the U.S. Federal Bureau of Prisons, Combs is now scheduled to be released on February 23, 2028, replacing the previous projected date of April 15, 2028. Earlier this year, his expected release had already been moved up from April 25, 2028, which itself followed an earlier projected date of June 4, 2028. The repeated revisions have drawn renewed public attention to the rapper’s sentence and the federal prison system’s administrative calculations.  The 56-year-old music executive is currently serving a 50-month federal prison sentence at the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Fort Dix in New Jersey. In 2025, a jury found Combs guilty on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. However, he was acquitted of the more serious charges of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking. The court also imposed a $500,000 fine and a period of supervised release following the completion of his prison sentence.  Federal officials have not publicly explained why Combs’ projected release date has been revised multiple times. Reports suggest the adjustments could be linked to standard Bureau of Prisons sentence calculations and participation in rehabilitation programs available to eligible inmates. However, prison authorities have not confirmed a specific reason for the latest change.  Meanwhile, Combs’ legal team continues to challenge his conviction. His attorneys have filed an appeal, arguing that his sentence was excessive and seeking either a new trial or a reduced sentence. The appeal remains pending, meaning the current release date could still change depending on future court decisions or administrative reviews.  The revised release timeline comes just days after reports emerged that Combs had been placed in solitary confinement following an altercation with another inmate at FCI Fort Dix. According to media reports, prison staff quickly intervened and separated those involved. It remains unclear whether the incident will have any impact on his projected release date or prison status.  Although the updated release date brings Combs one step closer to freedom, his legal troubles are far from over. Beyond the ongoing appeal, he continues to face multiple civil lawsuits alleging sexual misconduct, all of which he has denied. For now, February 23, 2028, remains the official projected release date listed by the Federal Bureau of Prisons, though future legal or administrative developments could alter that timeline.
