Darwish Rasooli to lead Afghanistan’s Young Asian Games squad

KABUL: Afghanistan have handed top-order batter Darwish Rasooli the captaincy for their 2026 Asian Games campaign, naming a largely inexperienced 15-member squad for the tournament in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.

The squad reflects Afghanistan’s desire to give emerging players a bigger stage, with six players yet to make their international debuts. Five other members have played fewer than 10 international matches.

The Asian Games will take place from September 24 to October 3, with Afghanistan choosing to rest several of their biggest names.

Regular captain Rashid Khan has been left out, along with explosive opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz and all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai. Their absence creates an opportunity for younger players to step into important roles.

Afghanistan have, however, retained some experience. Najibullah Zadran and Karim Janat are included and are expected to provide leadership and stability around the younger members of the squad.

Much of the selection was influenced by performances in the recently completed 11th edition of the Shpageeza Cricket League. Several players impressed enough in the domestic tournament to earn their opportunity on the Asian stage.

Top-order batter Mohammad Akram was among the leading performers, scoring 339 runs in eight innings, including one century and two half-centuries.

All-rounder Ismat Alam also caught the selectors’ attention. He scored 294 runs and took nine wickets, earning the Shpageeza Cricket League’s best-player award.

Wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Ishaq, Hassan Eisakhil, Khalid Taniwal and Imran Mir are among the other promising youngsters selected.

Rasooli will now face the challenge of guiding a relatively inexperienced group through a major multi-sport event. His leadership could prove crucial as Afghanistan look to turn their emerging talent into international performers.

The Asian Games assignment comes soon after Afghanistan’s scheduled three-match T20I series against India in Delhi. The series is expected to be played in the week leading into the continental competition, giving several players valuable preparation before they travel to Japan.

Afghanistan Asian Games squad:

Darwish Rasooli (c), Mohammad Ishaq (wk), Mohammad Akram, Hassan Eisakhil, Khalid Taniwal, Imran Mir, Faisal Khan Shinozada, Najibullah Zadran, Farmanullah Safi, Ismat Alam, Karim Janat, Nangyal Kharoti, Arab Gul Momand, Faridoon Dawoodzai, Abdullah Ahmadzai.

Rawalakot election possible on August 20 or 21 if …

Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Chief Election Commissioner Ghulam Mustafa Mughal has said that elections in Rawalakot could be held on August 20 or 21 if the ongoing protest is resolved within the next three to four days. Speaking to the media in Muzaffarabad, Mughal said polling in Bagh and Haveli was scheduled to take place first due to security concerns. He said security personnel had already arrived in the two districts, while polling material was being transported under the supervision of the military. He added that eight security personnel would be deployed at each highly sensitive polling station to ensure the safety of voters and election staff. The chief election commissioner said efforts were also under way to restore internet services in Bagh and Haveli on August 9 and 10. Mughal said the Election Commission expected to be in a position to announce the polling date for Rawalakot within the next seven days. However, the final schedule would depend on the resolution of the ongoing protest. “If the protest is resolved within three or four days, elections in Rawalakot can be held on August 20 or 21,” he said. Responding to allegations made by political leaders, Mughal said the Election Commission could not engage in a war of words with politicians. He said the commission would provide the facts once the electoral process had been completed and would determine whether any irregularities had occurred and who was responsible.

Hina Khan reveals cancer battle tested her marriage deeply

Indian television actress Hina Khan has opened up about the difficult impact her cancer diagnosis had on her relationship with longtime partner Rocky Jaiswal, revealing that her health battle made her reconsider their future together. Hina and Rocky had known each other for nearly 13 years before taking their relationship to the next level. The couple eventually married in an intimate ceremony in June 2025, during a particularly challenging period in Hina’s life as she was undergoing treatment for stage 3 breast cancer. Speaking about their relationship, Hina admitted that her diagnosis brought an enormous amount of uncertainty into their lives. Rather than questioning Rocky’s commitment, she found herself worrying about whether she could still give him the life and happiness he deserved. The actress revealed that she even encouraged Rocky to move on and consider marrying someone else. According to Hina, she made the suggestion several times because she feared that her illness could permanently change different aspects of their lives. “We are not in that space where we fight; we have been in real-life crises,” Hina explained while discussing their relationship. She recalled telling Rocky that he should marry someone else, believing that he should not feel obligated to stay with her because of her health struggles. For Hina, the decision was not an attempt to test Rocky’s love or loyalty. Instead, she said it came from a genuine desire to ensure that he could have the future he wanted, even if that future did not include her. Her cancer journey brought emotional and physical challenges, but Rocky remained a constant source of support. Hina acknowledged that his presence played a major role in helping her cope with one of the most difficult periods of her life. “Anyone who was around me then knew that I was able to get through that time only because of him,” she shared, adding that Rocky made the difficult circumstances appear much easier than they actually were. Despite Hina’s repeated attempts to convince him to move forward without her, Rocky chose to remain by her side. He supported her throughout her cancer treatment and stood with her through the uncertainty surrounding her health. The couple ultimately married while Hina was still battling cancer, turning their relationship into a story of commitment and resilience during an exceptionally challenging chapter. Hina’s revelations offer a deeply personal look at how serious illness can affect not only an individual but also the relationships surrounding them. While she feared that her condition might prevent Rocky from experiencing the life he deserved, his decision to stay demonstrated his willingness to face the difficult circumstances alongside her. Their journey highlights the strength of a relationship when both partners choose to stand together during moments of uncertainty. For Hina, Rocky’s unwavering support became an important part of her ability to navigate her cancer battle, while their marriage marked another significant chapter in their 13-year journey together.

PM Shehbaz Sharif orders digital system to end oil…

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the implementation of a modern digital monitoring system in Pakistan’s oil and gas sector, aiming to eliminate profiteering, hoarding and improve transparency across the energy supply chain. The directive came during a meeting in Islamabad where the prime minister met a delegation led by the World Bank’s country director. The delegation presented a set of policy recommendations focused on strengthening governance, improving regulatory oversight and enhancing efficiency in the country’s energy sector. During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz instructed the relevant authorities to establish a committee to review the World Bank’s recommendations and submit practical proposals for implementation. The committee is expected to evaluate the report and identify reforms that could modernize the sector while protecting consumers. The prime minister also issued specific instructions to the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) to introduce an advanced digital system capable of monitoring the movement, storage and distribution of petroleum products. The initiative is intended to increase transparency, curb illegal practices and prevent artificial shortages caused by hoarding. Officials said the digital platform is expected to strengthen regulatory oversight by enabling authorities to monitor supply chains in real time, making it more difficult for unscrupulous elements to manipulate fuel availability or earn unlawful profits through price distortions. The government believes greater digital integration will improve accountability, ensure a more reliable supply of petroleum products and build public confidence in the country’s energy market. Officials also hope the move will support broader economic reforms by promoting fair competition and reducing opportunities for market abuse. The meeting reflects the government’s continued focus on improving governance in key economic sectors through technology-driven reforms. Energy experts say stronger digital oversight could help streamline operations, enhance regulatory compliance and provide consumers with greater protection against unfair pricing and supply disruptions. The government is expected to announce further details regarding the implementation timeline after the review committee completes its assessment of the World Bank’s recommendations.

Transporters join fuel dealers’ strike against d…

Transport associations across Pakistan have announced support for the Petroleum Dealers Association’s demands and warned of a possible suspension of transport services following a planned shutdown of petrol pumps. The All Pakistan Public Transport Owners Association said public transport operations could also come to a halt if fuel stations close at midnight. Association President Nadeem Hussain said the transport sector would support the petrol dealers’ stance against the government’s policy of fixing petrol and diesel prices on a daily basis. He demanded that the government withdraw the daily fuel pricing mechanism, saying it has created uncertainty and increased financial pressure on transport operators. Hussain said frequent changes in fuel prices directly affect transport businesses because fuel is one of the biggest operating costs for public transport owners. He warned that a continued increase in petroleum prices could further burden both transporters and passengers. The Pakistan Mini Mazda Goods Transport Association also announced its support for the strike call by petrol station owners. Association President Sher Ali Chaudhry said mini Mazda vehicles would stop operating from midnight as part of the protest against daily increases in petroleum prices. He criticized the government’s decision to revise fuel prices regularly, saying it has made it difficult for transporters to manage expenses and maintain their services. Chaudhry said rising fuel costs have severely affected the transport sector, increasing operational expenses and reducing the income of vehicle owners and drivers. Both transport associations urged the government to reconsider the current fuel pricing policy and take steps to provide relief to transporters.

Angelina Jolie makes emotional U-turn on love as l…

Angelina Jolie is reportedly entering a new chapter in her life, one marked by personal reflection, emotional healing, and a changing perspective on love. As the Hollywood star prepares for the day when all six of her children are living independent lives, new reports suggest she is also reassessing her feelings about romance following her highly publicized split from Brad Pitt. According to recent entertainment reports, Jolie has spent much of the past several years focusing on her children and career while keeping her personal life out of the spotlight. Sources claim that the actress has been reluctant to date after her difficult breakup with Pitt, believing the emotional toll of the relationship left her wary of opening her heart again. Insiders say Jolie’s hesitation stems from the challenges she faced during and after her separation from Pitt. The former couple’s divorce and legal disputes, including ongoing disagreements over custody and the French winery Château Miraval, have kept them in the headlines for years. Those experiences reportedly had a lasting impact on Jolie’s confidence in romantic relationships. However, recent reports suggest the actress is beginning to shift her outlook. Rather than allowing past heartbreak to define her future, Jolie is said to be embracing a healthier mindset. While she is not actively searching for a new relationship, sources claim she is no longer completely closed off to the possibility of finding love again if the right person comes along. Another major reason for Jolie’s emotional transition is her changing role as a mother. With her children growing older and pursuing their own education, careers, and interests, the actress is gradually approaching the empty-nest stage of life. Although the transition is expected to be bittersweet, those close to Jolie say she is proud of her children and excited to see them build their own futures. Friends reportedly believe this next phase could allow Jolie to focus more on herself after years of putting her family first. Whether through new film projects, humanitarian work, travel, or eventually a future relationship, the actress is said to be embracing the opportunities that come with this fresh chapter. Despite the renewed optimism, reports indicate Jolie remains cautious. She is said to value emotional stability and trust more than ever before and has no interest in rushing into another romance. Instead, she is focused on protecting the peace she has worked hard to create. While only Angelina Jolie truly knows what the future holds, recent reports paint a picture of a woman who is gradually moving beyond the pain of the past. As she prepares for life after raising her children at home, Jolie appears determined to prioritize healing, happiness, and a future shaped by her own choices rather than past experiences.
