Eight killed, 37 injured as heavy rains lash Punja…

Heavy rain and strong winds caused widespread destruction across Punjab over the past 24 hours, leaving at least eight people dead and 37 others injured in a series of weather-related incidents, according to the Emergency Services Department.

Rescue Punjab said most of the casualties occurred after roofs, walls, and sheds collapsed due to intense rainfall and powerful windstorms. Emergency teams responded to dozens of incidents across the province and carried out rescue and relief operations.

Gujranwala was among the worst-affected districts. Rescue officials reported eight separate incidents of roof and wall collapses. Three people lost their lives, while 14 others suffered injuries. Rescue teams shifted the injured to nearby hospitals and cleared debris from the affected areas.

In Kamoke, a tragic incident claimed the life of a child who drowned after falling into rainwater accumulated in an underpass. Authorities urged parents to keep children away from flooded roads and underpasses during heavy rainfall.

In Pakpattan, two people were killed and two others injured when the mud roof of a house collapsed following continuous rain. Rescue workers reached the site and recovered the victims from the rubble before shifting the injured for medical treatment.

In Sahiwal, a woman died after the roof of a house collapsed in Kot Khadim Ali Shah. In another incident in Harappa, three people were injured when the roof of a shop caved in during the storm.

Lahore also witnessed damage as a roof collapsed near Gulshan-e-Ravi on Band Road, injuring four people. Rescue teams provided first aid and transported the injured to hospital.

In Mandi Bahauddin, several villages reported roof and wall collapses. Eight people sustained injuries in separate incidents caused by the severe weather.

In Bahawalnagar, one person was injured after a shed collapsed near Al-Jannat Chowk on Khan Baba Road.

Three more people were injured in Sialkot when the roof of a structure gave way during the rainfall.

Rescue officials also reported partial landslides and incidents of fallen trees in the hilly areas of Murree and Kahuta. Emergency teams remained on alert to clear roads and respond to any further emergencies.

Father, two relatives held over newlywed’s deat…

KHANEWAL: The sudden death of a 25-year-old newlywed woman in Khanewal has taken a disturbing turn after police arrested her father and two relatives over allegations that she was strangled days after marrying a man of her choice. The woman, identified as Iqra, died in Mehr Shah, an area falling within the jurisdiction of Sadar Khanewal Police Station. Police said her family initially attempted to present the death as an electrocution incident. According to the police and the FIR, Iqra had married Sohail three days before her death despite opposition from her family. Her husband alleged that her father, angered by the marriage, brought her back from her in-laws’ home on the pretext of formally sending her off from her parental house. Investigators allege that after bringing her home, Iqra was strangled with the assistance of her uncle and brother. Police are also examining claims that the family later staged the scene to make the death appear accidental. The case has now triggered a formal murder investigation, with authorities focusing on the circumstances surrounding the young woman’s death. Police arrested Iqra’s father, Falak Sher, and registered a case. Her body was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Khanewal for a post-mortem examination, which is expected to help establish the exact cause of death. Sadar police SHO Ramzan Gul said Falak Sher was in custody and that investigators were waiting for the post-mortem report before drawing final conclusions. The officer said preliminary findings suggested that Iqra’s father could be the main suspect, while investigators were questioning other family members and examining the alleged strangulation and reported attempt to disguise the circumstances of her death. Police said the investigation would proceed further once the medical findings are received. Until then, the allegations remain under investigation, while authorities continue to determine what happened to Iqra after she returned to her family home.

Modi unveils free coaching and AI training plan to…

NEW DELHI: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced a major education and skills initiative aimed at addressing growing concerns among young people over employment, competitive exams and the rising cost of education. Speaking at India’s Independence Day ceremony at the Red Fort, Modi said the government would offer free online coaching for a range of competitive examinations. He said the programme would help reduce the financial pressure on families whose children spend years preparing for highly competitive entrance and recruitment tests. The announcement follows nationwide youth protests sparked by allegations of examination paper leaks and recruitment irregularities. The demonstrations intensified pressure on the government and contributed to the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan last month. Modi also announced an ambitious artificial intelligence skills programme, saying 10 million young Indians would receive AI-related training over the next year. The government hopes the initiative will equip young people with skills needed in a rapidly changing job market. India’s competitive education system has created a large private coaching industry, with many families spending heavily on preparation courses. Modi said free digital coaching would allow students to remain with their families while reducing the financial burden associated with preparation. During his speech, Modi also outlined a broader seven-point development and reform agenda covering manufacturing, agriculture, technology, defence and sectors linked to India’s cultural influence. He reiterated his goal of transforming India into a developed economy within the next two decades. The prime minister also announced plans for additional semiconductor facilities and nuclear reactors, with the government seeking to expand domestic manufacturing and energy capacity. Modi said India’s young population would be central to achieving the country’s development ambitions, describing youth as the biggest potential beneficiaries of a more prosperous and developed India.

World Cup conspiracies weaponised as Javier Milei blames foreign leftists for online backlash

Following Argentina’s defeat by Spain in the World Cup final, President Javier Milei has alleged that a coordinated, foreign-funded anti-Argentina campaign was launched to undermine his nation and its football team. The far-right libertarian president claimed during a radio interview that the US Democratic party, alongside the governments of Mexico and Brazil, financed widespread online hostility, fan racism accusations, and rumours of favorable treatment towards Lionel Messi’s squad. Milei specifically targeted Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, alleging that Brazil provided the largest share of funding for these attacks, a statement he reiterated while attending a campaign launch for far-right senator Flávio Bolsonaro in São Paulo. The president’s claims come amidst online friction and high-profile international criticism, including an Instagram post by actor Samuel L. Jackson urging fans not to support Argentina due to historical racism in the country. Whilst digital communications researchers acknowledge a genuine surge of transnational hostility online, experts note there is no public evidence supporting Milei’s claims of an organised international funding plot. Instead, political analysts view the narrative as a calculated tactic to stoke culture wars and divert public attention away from domestic corruption scandals, rising unemployment, and the severe impact of his austerity measures, which have pushed the administration’s popularity to its lowest level since taking office.

Zainab Raja makes serious allegations about Tamasha

Tamasha has become one of Pakistan’s most popular reality television shows since its launch on ARY Digital in 2022. Based on the format of Big Brother, the show brings celebrities and public figures together under one roof, where they compete in a variety of tasks while dealing with interpersonal conflicts, alliances and eliminations. After four successful seasons between 2022 and 2025, the fifth season is currently attracting considerable attention from viewers. The ongoing season has introduced several contestants who have quickly gained popularity among fans. Babrik Shah, Zee Khan, Laila, Samia Hijab and Esra are among the contestants who have emerged as prominent players this year. Tamasha Season 4, which aired last year, also received widespread attention. The season featured contestants including Saif Ali Khan, Muslim, Ommy, Zainab Raja, Kanwal Farooq and Yaseen. Zainab Raja, in particular, became known for her strong presence and performance during the competition. Following her appearance on the show, Zainab has remained active on social media, regularly sharing videos, opinions and updates with her followers. In a series of recent Instagram stories, she made several serious allegations concerning the reality show and claimed that certain aspects of the competition were not as they appeared on television. Zainab alleged that Tamasha was scripted and claimed that winners could be decided before the conclusion of a season. She also accused the show of providing preferential treatment to certain contestants. Among her most notable claims, Zainab alleged that one of the popular male contestants had been married and had two children while presenting himself as unmarried during his participation in the show. She claimed that contestants inside the house were aware of his marital status and that he eventually became one of the Top 5 contestants. However, she did not publicly name the contestant in her statements. Zainab also claimed that her comments about the show being scripted were edited from the broadcast. According to her, she directly told host Adnan Siddiqui, “Scripted hai aapka show,” but alleged that viewers were shown only her facial expressions while her actual response was removed from the final episode. She further claimed that contestants were not permitted to reveal certain details about what happened behind the scenes. The former contestant also raised questions about promotional activities surrounding the show. She claimed that public relations campaigns were carried out for contestants who eventually won or performed strongly in different seasons. Zainab suggested that software operators could be consulted to determine which contestants received promotional support and argued that several participants had benefited from such campaigns. Another issue she highlighted concerned the treatment of male contestants inside the house. Zainab alleged that male participants were permitted to leave the house to offer Friday prayers and were also given opportunities to communicate with their families through phone calls. She described what she considered differences in privileges as unfair treatment. Zainab’s allegations have generated discussion among fans of the reality show. However, the claims remain allegations made by the former contestant, and there has been no independent confirmation of the specific accusations mentioned in her social media posts. Tamasha continues to attract strong public interest, with viewers closely following the contestants, their relationships and the developments taking place inside the house.
