Harry and Meghan’s UK security plan revealed

British Prime Minister Andy Burnham has declined to give details about security arrangements for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle as the couple prepare to return to the United Kingdom.

Speaking to reporters during a visit to West Yorkshire, Burnham was asked about the Sussexes’ security situation following reports that they plan to relocate to Britain later this month.

The prime minister described the matter as private and said the couple’s plans were their own concern. He wished Harry and Meghan well as they prepare for their move.

The comments come after reports that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are planning to establish a private home in Britain with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. The family is expected to remain in a private, non-royal residence rather than move into a royal property.

The reported relocation would mark a significant change for the family, which moved to the United States after stepping back from royal duties in 2020.

Archie and Lilibet are expected to begin attending school in Britain in September. Their school arrangements have reportedly already been made, although details about the institution and the family’s new address have not been publicly disclosed.

Security has remained a sensitive issue for Harry since his loss of automatic publicly funded police protection following his decision to step back as a working royal.

The prince has previously challenged the arrangements, arguing that security concerns affect his ability to bring his family to Britain safely. The issue became particularly prominent during plans for family visits earlier this year.

The latest move, however, suggests that Harry and Meghan are prepared to spend a much longer period in Britain despite the unresolved public debate over their security arrangements.

The couple are not currently expected to resume official working roles within the Royal Family. Their return is instead being described as a move to establish a British base while maintaining their private lives and existing links to the United States.

Harry’s relationship with members of the Royal Family has remained complicated, although recent developments have indicated some easing of tensions. King Charles has reportedly been informed about the family’s plans.

For now, the government has offered little public detail about whether Harry, Meghan and their children will receive any special security support after relocating.

    TOKYO: A powerful 7.1-magnitude earthquake struck Japan’s southern Kyushu island on Tuesday, prompting authorities to issue a tsunami warning for coastal areas. The strong tremor disrupted daily life in several areas. Around 40,000 homes reportedly lost electricity after the earthquake. Train services operated by JR Kyushu were also suspended as authorities assessed the situation. Kyushu Electric Power said its Sendai and Genkai nuclear power plants reported no abnormalities or damage following the earthquake. Officials continued monitoring the facilities as a precaution. The latest earthquake comes after another strong tremor struck northern Japan on June 25. That earthquake measured 7.2 in magnitude but did not cause major casualties or widespread damage. Japan is one of the world’s most earthquake-prone countries. It sits along the Pacific “Ring of Fire”, a region known for frequent earthquakes and volcanic activity. The country experiences thousands of earthquakes every year. It also accounts for a significant share of the world’s earthquakes measuring magnitude 6 or higher.

    ECC to review Rs1.34 hike in dealers’ margin

    ISLAMABAD: The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) is set to consider a proposal to increase the margin of petroleum dealers. The meeting will be held on Friday evening. Federal Finance Minister will chair the session. The meeting is scheduled for 6pm. According to sources, the increase in petroleum dealers’ margins is the only item on the agenda. The committee will examine a proposal for a Rs1.34 per litre increase. Petroleum dealers currently receive a margin of Rs8.64 per litre on petroleum products. If approved, the proposed increase will raise the margin to Rs9.98 per litre. The proposal comes after discussions between the government and representatives of petroleum dealers. During those talks, the government had assured dealers that their margin would be increased. Dealers have been seeking an adjustment in their margin amid rising operational expenses. They argue that higher costs have affected the profitability of their businesses. The ECC will review the proposal and decide whether the increase should be approved. The committee’s decision will determine the next steps for implementing the proposed adjustment. Any increase in the dealers’ margin could also affect the overall pricing structure of petroleum products. The final impact will depend on how the government incorporates the additional margin into the pricing mechanism.

WHO has said that strengthening surveillance, contact tracing, clinical care and community engagement remains central to the response. Recent research has also suggested that the outbreak may involve a previously unrecorded variant of the Bundibugyo strain and could have resulted from a new animal-to-human transmission event, underscoring the importance of monitoring potential spillover from wildlife. With thousands of confirmed infections and deaths already recorded, authorities face an urgent race to slow transmission and prevent the outbreak from spreading further across the region.
