Laem Chabang Port Releases Over 390,000 Crab and Shrimp Fry in Volunteer Drive to Restore Marine Resources
LAEM CHABANG, Thailand – August 14th, 2026 – Laem Chabang Port held a volunteer activity titled “Volunteer Spirit: Releasing Aquatic Species at the Port… for the Land,” bringing together executives, employees, terminal operators, fishing groups, and partner networks to release more than 390,000 crab and shrimp fry. The initiative is to boost aquatic resources, restore marine ecosystems, and ensure the long-term abundance of coastal waters for the Ban Laem Chabang community.
The event began at 9:00 a.m. on the beach of the Ban Laem Chabang community. Mrs. Sirima Keerattayakom, Deputy Director of Laem Chabang Port, presided over the opening. Mr. Weerachat Phuttharaksa, Assistant Director of Laem Chabang Port, delivered the report. Participants included port executives and staff, terminal operators, representatives from fishing groups, and network partners.
Organized under the Volunteer Spirit for Public Benefit and Charity Project, the activity marked the birthday anniversary of Her Royal Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother. It served as an expression of loyalty and gratitude while promoting cooperation in the conservation and restoration of marine natural resources.
Mrs. Sirima stated that the port arranged the activity to benefit the Ban Laem Chabang community by increasing marine resources and rehabilitating the local ecosystem. Support came from the Ban Bang Lamung Fishing Group, one of six fishing groups assisted by Laem Chabang Port under EHIA measures to encourage aquatic breeding and expand marine resources.
She noted that Phase 3 of the Laem Chabang Port Development Project is being constructed in areas traditionally used by local fishers. In response, the port has allocated budgets to all six fishing groups to support breeding programs and the replenishment of marine resources in the region.
Mrs. Sirima added that the event formed part of public service activities linked to the royal birthday anniversary on August 12th. Networks, operators, the community, fishing groups, transport associations, service providers in the port vicinity, as well as port executives and employees, were invited to join in returning the aquatic species to nature.
“Today we released more than 390,000 crab and shrimp fry to increase marine resources in the Ban Laem Chabang community area, an area we live in and share. This will provide aquatic resources that can sustain the livelihoods of local people over the long term,” she said.
Beyond replenishing fish stocks and restoring the marine ecosystem, the activity strengthened teamwork among Laem Chabang Port, the community, fishing groups, operators, and partner networks in conserving marine natural resources and delivering sustainable benefits to communities surrounding the port.
