Rod Stewart’s recent health scare has forced the legendary singer to cancel the remaining dates of his One Last Time farewell tour, leaving fans concerned about his recovery. His wife, Penny Lancaster, has now offered a reassuring update as the 81-year-old musician focuses on getting better.

Stewart recently underwent a successful coronary stent procedure after being taken to hospital for a medical issue. His representatives confirmed that he is recovering well and has resumed normal daily activities, but doctors have advised him to take around four weeks away from performing.

Lancaster, who has been married to Stewart since 2007, has remained close to him throughout his recent health difficulties. Her response comes as the singer takes a break from the demanding touring schedule he has maintained for years.

The couple’s family life has frequently remained separate from Stewart’s huge career, but Lancaster has supported her husband through several health challenges over the years.

Stewart himself has attempted to reassure fans that he is recovering. Following the procedure, the singer expressed his gratitude to the medical professionals who cared for him and apologized to fans who will miss his upcoming performances. 

Tour cancellation follows several setbacks

The heart procedure comes after a difficult period for Stewart’s touring schedule.

Earlier this month, he postponed a Cincinnati performance after requiring what was initially described as a minor medical procedure. A Cleveland show was also postponed. These cancellations followed other health-related disruptions earlier in the year. 

Stewart also caused concern during a July concert in Utah when he briefly stopped performing and used oxygen backstage after nearly fainting. He later addressed the audience and continued his performances. 

With his latest medical procedure requiring additional recovery time, Stewart has now canceled the remaining dates of his One Last Time tour. The affected schedule included performances in North America, Mexico and a planned Las Vegas residency. Promoters and venues are expected to provide information about refunds and other arrangements directly to ticket holders. 

Stewart focuses on recovery

Despite the disappointment of ending the tour early, Stewart’s representatives say he is doing well and following medical advice.

The singer has spent decades performing around the world, and stepping away from the stage is clearly an emotional decision. However, his latest update suggests that his priority is now regaining his strength.

For Lancaster and the rest of Stewart’s family, the recent health scare has brought another reminder of the importance of putting his wellbeing first.

    WASHINGTON: Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska has announced that she will vote against Todd Blanche’s nomination for US attorney general, dealing another setback to President Donald Trump’s choice and leaving his confirmation prospects increasingly uncertain. Murkowski’s decision makes her the second Republican senator to oppose Blanche, following Senator Susan Collins. With the Republican majority in the Senate already facing a narrow margin, even one more GOP defection could put the nomination in serious jeopardy. Murkowski said concerns surrounding an $1.8 billion “anti-weaponization” fund played a major role in her decision. Although the fund was rescinded while Blanche’s nomination was under consideration, she questioned whether it could be restored if Blanche is confirmed. “The country needs an Attorney General who will check the worst impulses of this administration,” Murkowski said, adding that she did not have sufficient confidence that Blanche would fulfil that role. Her opposition adds to a growing political challenge for Blanche, who is seeking Senate approval to lead the Justice Department. The nomination has faced scrutiny over questions surrounding the department’s independence and its handling of politically sensitive matters. The situation is particularly delicate because Republican Senator Mitch McConnell is absent from the Senate.     BEIRUT: Southern Lebanon has been plunged into renewed uncertainty after Israeli airstrikes killed at least 11 people, including three children, and injured 19 others, in the deadliest such escalation since the June ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah. The strikes hit the towns of Ansar and Deir al-Zahrani on Saturday, according to Lebanese authorities. In Ansar, an airstrike on a residential home killed seven people, while another attack in Deir al-Zahrani killed four and wounded several others. Rescue workers and local residents rushed to the damaged sites, searching through rubble for survivors and recovering bodies. Lebanon’s Health Ministry confirmed the casualty figures, while reports said women and children were among those killed. The attacks have raised fresh concerns about the durability of the ceasefire and the possibility of another escalation along the Israel-Lebanon border. Israel said its military operations targeted Hezbollah infrastructure and were carried out in response to attacks that had seriously wounded three Israeli soldiers. The Israeli military also said a senior Hezbollah commander was among those targeted. Israeli officials maintained that Hezbollah activity in the area posed a continuing threat. Lebanese leaders strongly condemned the strikes. President Joseph Aoun described the attacks as a dangerous message at a time when Lebanon and Israel are preparing for another round of US-backed direct negotiations. He warned that repeated violations of the ceasefire could undermine diplomatic efforts aimed at restoring stability. Prime Minister Nawaf Salam also denounced the attacks, stressing that the women and children killed in Ansar were not military targets. He called on Israel to halt what he described as dangerous escalation. The strikes have also put Hezbollah’s position under renewed scrutiny. The group condemned the Israeli attacks and vowed to deliver an “appropriate response”, warning that continued violations could not go unanswered. Hezbollah also criticised the Lebanese government’s negotiations with Israel and called for a tougher position. The latest violence comes as Lebanon faces a delicate political and security challenge. A US-backed framework announced in June was intended to reduce hostilities, address Hezbollah’s weapons and facilitate an Israeli withdrawal from parts of southern Lebanon. Instead, continued attacks and retaliatory actions have kept the region on edge. For residents of southern Lebanon, the latest strikes have brought back memories of prolonged conflict. With civilians once again caught between military operations and political disputes, fears are growing that the fragile ceasefire could give way to a much wider confrontation. The coming days may prove critical. Any Hezbollah retaliation could trigger further Israeli military action, while continued diplomatic efforts face the difficult task of preventing the latest bloodshed from becoming the beginning of another cycle of violence.

    ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is examining the potential use of digital assets and tokenisation in areas including real estate and other investment instruments as part of broader efforts to accelerate digital transformation and expand access to financial services. The matter came under discussion during a meeting between Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb and Pakistan Digital Authority (PDA) Chairperson Dr Sohail Munir on Thursday. The meeting focused on digital finance, technology-driven economic activity and measures aimed at making financial services more accessible and efficient. According to the Finance Division, the participants reviewed the emerging role of digital assets and tokenisation, particularly their possible application in real estate and other investment-related assets. The discussion also stressed the need for an appropriate regulatory and institutional framework to ensure that such technologies are adopted in a responsible and sustainable manner. Tokenisation generally involves representing ownership or economic rights in an asset through digital tokens. The approach has attracted growing international attention because it can potentially make certain investment opportunities easier to access, improve transaction efficiency and broaden participation in financial markets. The finance minister stressed that Pakistan’s regulatory and institutional arrangements must keep pace with rapid developments in digital technology and new business models. He emphasised that emerging technologies should be supported by clear rules and mechanisms that provide certainty to businesses, investors and financial institutions. The meeting also examined the need to create an enabling environment for electronic transactions and encourage the wider adoption of digital processes across trade and financial activities. Aurangzeb highlighted the importance of using technology to reduce procedural barriers and improve access to finance. In this regard, the participants discussed simplifying customer onboarding procedures, strengthening mechanisms for sharing financial data and improving interoperability among different financial systems. Greater connectivity between banks and capital markets was also identified as an important area for development. The participants considered how digital platforms and simplified account-opening procedures could encourage more people to participate in the capital market and gain access to a broader range of investment opportunities.   The finance minister also called for stronger integration of banking and capital-market systems, noting that better-connected digital infrastructure could help improve financial inclusion while making investment processes more convenient and efficient. Another key area discussed during the meeting was the use and interoperability of data across government institutions. Aurangzeb noted that better integration of government data could improve the quality and speed of policymaking, planning and decision-making. The meeting also considered the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other digital technologies in strengthening government systems and improving the delivery of public and financial services. The participants reviewed opportunities to enhance Pakistan’s digital infrastructure so that government departments, financial institutions and businesses can operate through more efficient and interconnected systems. Aurangzeb appreciated the initiatives being undertaken by the Pakistan Digital Authority and stressed the need to prioritise practical projects capable of delivering measurable improvements in efficiency, financial access and digital capacity. He further emphasised continued coordination among government institutions, regulators, financial-sector stakeholders and technology organisations to ensure that digital initiatives translate into tangible economic benefits. The discussions form part of wider efforts to strengthen Pakistan’s digital economy by modernising financial processes, expanding technology-based services and creating an environment in which emerging financial technologies can develop within an appropriate regulatory framework. With digital assets, tokenisation, artificial intelligence and data-driven financial services developing rapidly worldwide, Pakistan’s efforts to establish suitable frameworks could play an important role in determining how effectively the country participates in the next phase of digital financial development.
