Hollywood star Salma Hayek has stepped into a new chapter of her life as a grandmother and has given fans a heartwarming first glimpse of her newborn grandson.

The 59-year-old Oscar-nominated actress shared an emotional video on Instagram on Sunday, August 16, showing herself lovingly holding the baby and speaking to him in Spanish.

Hayek revealed that the baby, born to her stepson François Pinault Jr. and his wife Lara Cosima Henckel von Donnersmarck, has been named François. However, the actress said she plans to affectionately call him “Panchito,” a nickname that she says the newborn already seems to enjoy.

“We are blessed to welcome the fourth living generation of Francois,” Hayek wrote alongside the video, expressing her joy over the newest addition to the family.

Hayek shares her 18-year-old daughter Valentina with her husband, François-Henri Pinault. She is also stepmother to Pinault’s three other children, Mathilde, François and Augustin.

Although Hayek only recently made her grandmotherhood public, reports indicate that the baby was born in July. The new parents recently marked their first month as a family, sharing photographs of their baby boy, including sweet moments with Hayek.

The Desperado and Frida star’s latest post has since drawn warm reactions from fans, who celebrated the actress’s joyful new role and the growing Pinault family.

    Governor of Punjab Sardar Saleem Haider Khan has said that those who had been supporting the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government in implementing its policies and defending its decisions had reached the limits of their endurance. Speaking to a delegation of the Pakistan English Media Association (PEMA) at the Governor’s House on Monday, he said the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) had now assumed the role of an opposition party and would continue to function as a genuine opposition until the next general elections, scheduled for 2029. PEMA Chairman Zulqernain Tahir and President Rameez Khan led the delegation, which also included Secretary General Ali Raza and members Mubashir Bokhari, Babar Dogar, Shahar Bano, Mubashar Hassan, Faisal Ali Ghumman and Samiullah Randhwa. He made it clear that the PPP would not return to the present coalition arrangement following the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) elections and would instead play the role of an effective opposition, particularly in Punjab. Mr Khan said the PPP had never favoured coalition governments as a means of running the country, even during the previous parliamentary term. Although the party was widely regarded as an ally of the PML-N-led government, he said it was, in practice, steadily moving into opposition. He maintained that those backing the present government appeared increasingly powerless in the face of poor governance and allegations of corruption. Responding to a question, the PPP leader said internal differences within the party had been resolved to enable it to function as a more effective opposition. Mr Khan also dismissed speculation over a power-sharing arrangement at the federal level, saying there was no written agreement under which Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif would serve for two and a half years before handing over office to Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for the remainder of the term. He said there could be no disagreement that the people of Pakistan were grappling with rising unemployment and persistent inflation. The PPP, he added, would continue to raise these issues publicly to mobilise support while also exerting political pressure on the PML-N government to improve its performance and deliver meaningful relief to the public.

    Sindh Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah has responded strongly to recent statements by MQM-P leaders Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and Mustafa Kamal. The remarks have sparked a fresh political exchange between the Sindh government and the MQM-P leadership. Shah reacted to the MQM-P leaders’ calls for political mobilisation and protests. He said they were free to take to the streets if they wanted to. In a sarcastic remark, he said the weather was hot and that “water would be provided” to them. The minister also questioned MQM-P’s demand for an account of the past 18 years. He asked the party leaders to explain how much accountability they had themselves provided during their political tenure. Shah also rejected suggestions about changing the existing structure of Sindh. He said the constitutional and geographical status of the province could not be changed according to the wishes of an individual political leader. He also criticised Mustafa Kamal’s remarks about the creation of new provinces. Shah said the country was already facing difficulties in managing its existing four provinces. He questioned why there was now a demand for additional provinces. The minister accused the MQM-P of turning towards public issues as elections approach. He said the party had previously enjoyed the benefits of political power but was now raising issues concerning the people. Shah’s comments came after Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui accused the Pakistan Peoples Party of creating an ethnic and linguistic divide in Sindh. Siddiqui had also demanded an accurate population count and stronger local governments. MQM-P leader Mustafa Kamal had separately said that the party would take to the streets to demand its rights. The statements have increased political tension between the MQM-P and the Sindh government. Sindh Culture Minister Zulfiqar Shah also criticised the MQM-P leadership. He said Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui was struggling to protect his position as party chairman. Zulfiqar Shah described the differences between Khalid Maqbool and Mustafa Kamal as the result of what he called divisive politics. He said the MQM-P leadership should first resolve its own differences. He also questioned the competing positions within the party. According to Zulfiqar Shah, the divided leadership should first decide whose statements should be taken seriously. The latest exchange comes amid renewed political debate over Sindh’s governance, representation and local government system. MQM-P has been demanding greater authority for local governments and an accurate population census. The party has also raised concerns about political representation and resource distribution in Sindh. The Sindh government, however, has rejected calls that could affect the province’s existing constitutional and geographical structure.

    ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Iran have reaffirmed their commitment to significantly strengthen economic cooperation by increasing bilateral trade to $10 billion and accelerating efforts to finalize a long-awaited Free Trade Agreement (FTA). The understanding was reached during the 10th meeting of the Pakistan-Iran Joint Trade Committee, held in Islamabad on Tuesday. The session was jointly chaired by Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan and Iranian Minister for Industry, Mine and Trade Dr. Mohammad Atabak, with senior officials from both countries participating in discussions aimed at expanding trade and investment ties. During the meeting, both sides reviewed the current state of bilateral trade and explored practical measures to unlock its full potential. The two countries agreed that stronger economic integration, improved connectivity, and enhanced cross-border cooperation are essential for achieving the ambitious trade target of $10 billion. Speaking on the occasion, Commerce Minister Jam Kamal said Pakistan and Iran enjoy longstanding historical, cultural, and religious ties, but stressed that these relations should now be translated into a robust economic partnership. He emphasized that expanding trade and investment would bring mutual economic benefits and contribute to regional prosperity. The minister underscored the importance of completing the Pakistan-Iran Free Trade Agreement at the earliest opportunity, describing it as a key step toward facilitating commerce between the neighboring countries. He also called for the removal of bottlenecks affecting border logistics, customs procedures, and cargo movement to ensure smoother and faster trade flows. Jam Kamal noted that bilateral trade could be further enhanced through the development of joint border markets, greater use of electronic data interchange systems, and closer coordination between relevant government agencies. He said modernizing trade infrastructure and simplifying customs procedures would help businesses on both sides benefit from increased commercial activity. The Joint Trade Committee also agreed to formulate a practical roadmap aimed at strengthening economic cooperation across multiple sectors. The roadmap will focus on trade facilitation, infrastructure development, logistics, and investment opportunities while encouraging closer collaboration between the public and private sectors. Iranian Minister Dr. Mohammad Atabak described Pakistan as one of Iran’s key long-term strategic trade partners and expressed confidence that bilateral economic relations could expand considerably in the coming years. He highlighted the importance of increasing regional trade and logistics cooperation, particularly by utilizing Pakistan’s Karachi and Gwadar ports to improve connectivity and facilitate the movement of goods. Dr. Atabak also voiced optimism about the early conclusion of the Pakistan-Iran Free Trade Agreement, saying it would create new opportunities for businesses in both countries. He added that cooperation in electricity trade, transport networks, and regional connectivity projects could open new avenues for economic growth and strengthen commercial links across the region.
