RAWALPINDI: Commandant Sihala Police College Ashfaq Ahmad Khan has called upon police officers to adopt a compassionate, respectful and impartial attitude towards victims of rape and sexual violence.

He was addressing sub-inspectors who successfully completed the one-month SSIOU course at Sihala Police College, Rawalpindi. Speaking at the concluding ceremony, Ashfaq Ahmad Khan said that rape victims, particularly women, children and girls, are already in a highly vulnerable situation, and it is the responsibility of police officers to protect their dignity and self-respect throughout the investigation process.

He stressed that investigations into rape cases must be conducted professionally, sensitively and impartially. The identity and personal information of victims must be kept strictly confidential so that their dignity and reputation in society are not compromised.

The Commandant urged the newly trained officers to ensure that every stage of an investigation is carried out while respecting the privacy and dignity of victims. At the same time, he said, investigations must be thorough, transparent and evidence-based so that perpetrators can be brought to justice and face the consequences of their crimes under the law.

Ashfaq Ahmad Khan said the police have a crucial responsibility to provide victims with justice, protection and confidence. According to energy consultancy Rystad Energy, around 13 million barrels of Gulf oil per day are still reaching international markets despite severe disruptions and restrictions in the region. Analysts noted that alternative shipping routes and logistical adjustments have helped prevent a complete supply shock. Lin Ye, Vice President of Commodity Markets at Rystad Energy, said geopolitical headlines continue to trigger rapid price spikes, but such rallies often fade as investors evaluate actual supply conditions and ongoing diplomatic efforts. Meanwhile, shipping challenges persist after Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz and the Iran-aligned Houthi movement’s naval blockade in the Red Sea. Even so, some cargoes, particularly those linked to Chinese buyers, continue to move through alternative channels. IG market analyst Tony Sycamore said the longer alternative export routes remain operational, the weaker Iran’s leverage over the Strait of Hormuz becomes. He added that markets are increasingly adapting to prolonged disruptions, reducing the lasting impact of geopolitical shocks on crude prices. Although volatility remains elevated, traders are now placing greater emphasis on uninterrupted oil flows rather than military rhetoric, suggesting that supply resilience could continue to shape global energy markets in the weeks ahead.

His latest recognition comes shortly after his promotion to the rank of four-star general and appointment as Pakistan’s first Commander of the National Strategic Command. The position was created as part of the sweeping reforms introduced under the 27th Constitutional Amendment, which reshaped the country’s higher defence structure. Under the new framework, the office of the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee was abolished and replaced by the position of Chief of Defence Forces, a role currently held concurrently by Field Marshal Asim Munir as Chief of Army Staff. The National Strategic Command serves as the unified operational headquarters for Pakistan’s strategic forces, bringing together the strategic commands of the Army, Navy and Air Force under one command. Despite this restructuring, the National Command Authority, chaired by the prime minister, remains the country’s highest decision-making body on nuclear policy and strategic employment. General Raza was appointed to the post by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on the recommendation of the Chief of Defence Forces. As provided under the amended Army Act, the appointment carries a three-year tenure. Before assuming his new responsibilities, General Raza served as Chief of General Staff, where he supervised key operational planning and played a central role in implementing military reforms introduced after the constitutional changes. He also oversaw organisational restructuring following last year’s conflict with India, including the establishment of the Army Rocket Force Command. Commissioned into the 6th Lancers in 1988 after graduating from the Officers Training School (OTS), General Raza has held several important command and staff appointments throughout his military career. These include commanding an armoured regiment, an armoured brigade, an infantry brigade in South Waziristan, an infantry division and Lahore’s IV Corps. He has also served as Chairman of Heavy Industries Taxila, Director General Weapons and Equipment, and Chief of Staff at II Corps.

    Content creator killed in broad-daylight shooting …

    TAXILA: A female TikTok content creator was shot dead and her teenage sister critically wounded in a broad-daylight attack near the Taxila bypass on GT Road, police said. According to police sources, the sisters were travelling in their car when a motorcyclist intercepted them near the bypass and opened fire. Both sustained multiple bullet wounds, while their vehicle lost control and crashed into a dumper. The content creator died at the scene, while her critically injured sister was initially taken to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, Taxila, before being shifted to Islamabad for further treatment. The victim’s brother told police that he had nominated two suspects in the case, alleging that a financial dispute between the woman and the accused had led to the targeted attack. Police registered a case and launched an investigation into the shooting. In a separate incident in Attock, police registered a target-killing case following the shooting deaths of two brothers in Malho village, within the jurisdiction of Rango Police Station in Hazro. Meanwhile, a 13-year-old boy drowned while swimming in a village pond in the Chappri area of Jand. Rescue 1122 officials recovered the boy’s body and shifted it to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital. Police registered a case and began an investigation into the incident.
