BANGKOK — The Ministry of Interior has ordered provincial governors across the North, Northeast, and Central regions to activate emergency response plans as a powerful summer storm system is forecast to bring thunderstorms, strong winds, isolated hail, and lightning strikes to large swathes of the country over the coming days.

According to the Thai Meteorological Department, upper Thailand will experience volatile weather from April 16 to 20 as a high-pressure system from China interacts with searing hot conditions across the region. The storm system is expected to begin in the Northeast before moving into the East, parts of the Central region, and the North, bringing sudden temperature drops and potentially destructive winds. Residents have been warned to expect heavy rain in some areas, along with the risk of flying debris and falling trees.

Permanent Secretary for Interior Unsit Sampuntharat said authorities have been instructed to monitor weather conditions closely, issue timely public alerts, and inspect vulnerable structures including buildings, billboards, utility poles, construction sites, and roadside trees that could collapse or become projectiles in high winds. Emergency response teams, along with necessary equipment and personnel, are being readied to provide rapid assistance to affected communities. Farmers, who are particularly vulnerable to sudden weather shifts during the dry season, are being advised to take precautions to protect crops and livestock from potential hail damage and flash flooding.

At the same time, officials continue their parallel battle against haze and air pollution affecting the North, Northeast, and upper Central regions, where particulate levels remain above safety standards. Measures in place include burn restrictions, enforcement actions against illegal burning, and both aerial and ground operations to suppress fires and reduce airborne pollutants. The dual challenge of extreme weather and persistent air pollution has put provincial authorities on high alert as they work to protect public health and safety on multiple fronts.

The action reflects the judiciary’s internal accountability process, under which complaints of misconduct against judicial officers are investigated through formal inquiries before disciplinary measures are taken. The photographs also reportedly showed the fingers of the victim’s left hand tightly clenched around broken grass, while suspicious marks were observed on the right hand. Medico-legal officials said these details could be significant for the ongoing investigation. According to the sources, another visible injury was found beneath the victim’s chin, which was also not adequately addressed in the preliminary examination. The report further suggested that the body was approximately 24 to 36 hours old at the time it was examined. Sources familiar with the findings said the gunshot entry wound appeared larger than the exit wound in the report, while the photographs indicated the bullet had entered from the back and exited through the front. They stressed that these contradictions require further forensic review. Officials also noted that the body appeared swollen in the photographs and the face was severely disfigured. They said a detailed examination of the head could have helped determine the exact cause of the facial injuries and provided additional forensic evidence. The discrepancies have raised concerns that flaws in the initial post-mortem documentation may affect the direction and credibility of the investigation.

Lou Koller, the longtime frontman and co-founder of New York hardcore band Sick of It All, has died at the age of 59 following a two-year battle with esophageal adenocarcinoma. The heartbreaking news was announced by the band on July 24, just months before what would have marked the group’s 40th anniversary.  In a heartfelt statement shared on social media, Koller’s bandmates described him as a “beloved friend” and an “iconic frontman” whose energy, humor, and passion helped shape the identity of Sick of It All for nearly four decades. They remembered his ability to light up every stage with a smile and a sarcastic joke while connecting with fans from every corner of the world. The band also thanked supporters who donated to Koller’s medical fund during his illness, saying the overwhelming love made him feel deeply appreciated throughout his fight.  Born and raised in Queens, New York, Lou Koller founded Sick of It All with his younger brother, Pete Koller, in 1986. The band quickly became one of the defining acts of the New York hardcore scene, blending aggressive punk music with lyrics centered on perseverance, unity, and resilience. Their debut album, Blood, Sweat and No Tears, released in 1989, helped establish their reputation, while later records such as Scratch the Surface and Wake the Sleeping Dragon! cemented their influence on generations of punk and hardcore musicians.  Koller first revealed his cancer diagnosis in June 2024 after doctors discovered a tumor in his esophagus extending into his stomach. The illness forced Sick of It All to postpone touring while he underwent chemotherapy. In 2025, the singer joyfully announced that he had been declared cancer-free, giving fans hope that he would return to the stage. Sadly, the cancer later returned, and he resumed treatment while continuing to express gratitude for the unwavering support of his family, friends, and loyal fanbase.  Tributes have poured in from across the music world following the announcement. WWE star CM Punk, whose famous “It’s Clobberin’ Time” catchphrase was inspired by Sick of It All’s iconic song, thanked Koller for providing “the soundtrack” to his life. Fellow punk bands, including Dropkick Murphys and members of Rancid, also honored the late musician, remembering him as a genuine, kind-hearted figure who left an unforgettable mark on the hardcore community.  Though Lou Koller’s voice has been silenced, his influence on hardcore punk will continue to inspire musicians and fans for generations. His legacy lives on through the music he created, the community he helped build, and the countless lives he touched throughout an extraordinary career.

    QUETTA: The death toll from a deadly coal mine explosion near Quetta has climbed to 34 after rescue teams recovered the bodies of eight more miners from the site. The incident occurred at a coal mine in the Sorange area, where dozens of workers were underground when a powerful methane gas explosion ripped through the mine. According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), a total of 42 miners were trapped following the blast. Rescue teams have managed to recover 34 bodies so far, while efforts continue to locate the remaining workers. Officials said the operation is being carried out under difficult conditions, with emergency personnel working around the clock to reach those still inside the mine. The mine owner confirmed that 42 labourers were present in the mine at the time of the explosion. Preliminary findings suggest that methane gas accumulated inside the mine, triggering the deadly blast. Balochistan Chief Minister has ordered an immediate report on the incident and directed authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. He warned that strict action would be taken against anyone found responsible if negligence or safety violations are established. Coal mining accidents remain a recurring concern in Balochistan, where hazardous working conditions and poor safety standards have claimed numerous lives over the years. The latest disaster has once again raised questions about the enforcement of mine safety regulations and the protection of workers in the province’s mining sector. Rescue operations are ongoing as authorities continue their search for the miners who remain unaccounted for.
