    Rabindranath Tagore’s statue in Edinburgh

The Sandeman House garden in Edinburgh holds a bronze statue of Asia’s first Nobel laureate in Literature, Rabindranath Tagore. Inscribed upon the pedestal supporting his likeness are his famous words, “I am a wayfarer on an endless road.” A Cross-Cultural Bridge Travelers often seek out Scotland’s capital for its ancient castles, gothic architecture, and literary heritage tied to the likes of Sir Walter Scott or Robert Louis Stevenson. However, discovering Tagore’s presence in this peaceful courtyard offers a cross-cultural bridge. The statue, unveiled to commemorate the deep-seated connections between Scotland and India. It is particularly the intellectual dialogue between Scottish polymath Patrick Geddes and Tagore himself. This monument serves as a physical testament to a global humanism that transcends geographic boundaries. Tagore’s India Tagore was far more than a celebrated poet and author. He was an uncompromising philosopher, musician, visual artist, and social reformer whose thoughts shaped modern South Asia and beyond. At the heart of his vast body of literature lies a profound critique of borders, nationalism, and sectarian division. Tagore envisioned an India, and indeed a world, defined by radical openness. In his mind, India is a sanctuary where diverse faiths, ethnicities, and cultures could coexist in mutual respect. He rejected narrow chauvinism in favor of an inclusive internationalism, advocating for a world where the mind is without fear and the head is held high. Tagore’s Literary Legacy In the contemporary geopolitical landscape, Tagore’s ideals feel relevant. Across the globe, modern youth face a climate marked by rising social polarization, cultural fracturing, and ideological echo chambers. In response, a growing movement of young activists, writers, thinkers, and students are turning back to Tagore’s literary legacy as a blueprint for unity. They are rediscovering his essays and poetry not merely as historical artifacts, but as active tools to reclaim a society rooted in pluralism and dialogue. By reimagining Tagore’s vision for a modern era, today’s generation is fighting to restore an environment where freedom of thought, artistic expression, and inclusivity thrive over division. His stance on education emphasized learning in harmony with nature and breaking down rigid academic and social silos. Young scholars and community organizers are channeling this exact ethos, utilizing art, literature, and grassroots civic engagement to rebuild cross-cultural bridges in an increasingly fragmented world. Message of Universal Brotherhood   Standing before Tagore’s statue in Edinburgh’s quiet garden, one is reminded that his journey as a “wayfarer” was never meant to be walked alone. His message of universal brotherhood, preserved in stone far from his native Bengal, serves as a timeless compass. For the youth striving to cultivate a more empathetic and open world, Tagore’s endless road remains wide open, inviting everyone to walk forward together.

  • The royal bloodlines that forged a Balkan powerhouse

In the heart of the 14th century, a monumental fresco was rendered upon the walls of the Lesnovo Monastery in modern-day North Macedonia. It captured a defining moment in Balkan history. Emperor Stefan Uroš IV Dušan alongside his wife, Empress Helena of Bulgaria, and their young heir, Stefan Uroš V. This wall painting serves as a enduring testament far more than a decorative piece of sacred art. A masterfully orchestrated political union that reshaped the geopolitical landscape of medieval Europe. At the center of this historical narrative is a strategic marriage forged in 1332. The newly crowned Serbian King Stefan Dušan entered into a pivotal treaty with Tsar Ivan Alexander of Bulgaria. He seems desperate to employ peace after years of regional conflict. The cornerstone of this agreement was the marriage of Dušan to Ivan Alexander’s sister, Princess Helena (Elena). This union was far more than a ceremonial gesture. Helena proved to be an immensely influential empress consort whose royal Bulgarian lineage carried significant political weight. Her marriage to Dušan directly altered his formal imperial standing, allowing him to claim authority not only over the Serbs and Greeks, but over the Bulgarians as well. The couple later gave birth to Stefan Uroš V, an heir who embodied the consolidated royal houses of the region. Yet, the Bulgarian connections within the Serbian royal court ran much deeper than Dušan’s marriage alone. Dušan himself was bound to Bulgaria by blood through his mother, Queen Theodora Smilets. As the daughter of Tsar Smilets, who ruled the Second Bulgarian Empire from 1292 to 1298 AD, Theodora brought rich dynastic heritage into the Nemanjić house. Thus, when Dušan rose to power and eventually established the grand Serbian Empire, he did so as a monarch who was inherently a product of both Serbian and Bulgarian elite lineages. The fresco preserved in Lesnovo illuminates this intertwined destiny. Depicting the imperial family dressed in rich, jewel-encrusted Byzantine-style robes, it reflects an era when diplomatic ties, shared heritage, and strategic royal marriages could unite rival realms under a single, dominant imperial banner. Today, these historical records and vibrant monastery paintings remind us that the borders of the medieval Balkans were constantly reshaped not just on the battlefield, but through the formidable power of dynastic unity.

Does placing Wi-Fi router on floor weaken signals?

You may have heard that the location of a Wi-Fi router plays an important role in its performance. Placing a router in a poor location can negatively affect the strength and range of internet signals. But what happens if you place a Wi-Fi router on the floor? The answer is that a Wi-Fi router can be placed on the floor but generally, it is not an ideal location. One reason is that when a router is placed on the floor, a significant portion of its Wi-Fi signals may be directed toward the ground. In addition, placing the router on the floor increases the chances of its signals being blocked or weakened by furniture and other household objects. As you may know, most Wi-Fi routers have antennas that transmit signals at different angles. Therefore, when a Wi-Fi router is placed on the floor, many of its signals may travel directly toward the floor instead of spreading efficiently throughout the room. Walls along the path of Wi-Fi signals can also act as obstacles. That is why it is generally recommended to place your Wi-Fi router in an elevated location such as on a shelf. The higher the router is placed, the better the signal coverage is likely to be throughout the house. It is also better to place the router in an open area where there are fewer household objects around it. Although placing a Wi-Fi router on the floor is not ideal, it is not necessarily the worst possible location. In fact, placing a router close to electrical appliances can be even worse. Therefore, you should avoid placing your Wi-Fi router near devices such as televisions, microwave ovens, refrigerators, Bluetooth devices and other electronic appliances as they can significantly interfere with signal coverage.

Echoes of 1971 in Pakistan’s Kashmir policy

History rarely repeats itself in exact terms, but it frequently rhymes through patterns of power, dissent and state responses. In Pakistan, analysts and political observers are increasingly highlighting the parallels between historical missteps. It is specifically the events leading up to the loss of East Pakistan in 1971 and the contemporary public grievances in Pakistan-administered Kashmir. The Cost of Ignoring Electoral Mandates In 1970, General Yahya Khan permitted general elections across Pakistan. The Awami League in East Pakistan secured a decisive democratic victory by winning 162 out of 300 national seats. However, rather than facilitating a peaceful transfer of power, military leaders stalled negotiations in Dhaka through early 1971. This breakdown in dialogue culminated in Operation Searchlight, a military crackdown targeting intellectuals, students, and Bengali civilians. The resulting violence triggered a massive refugee crisis. Approximately ten million people were sent to India. A war that ultimately led to the creation of Bangladesh. Pakistan’s own Hamoodur Rahman Commission concluded that political failure and operational excess by military leadership were central to the catastrophe. Despite these official findings, the report remained suppressed for decades, leaving fundamental lessons about the dangers of military overreach largely unexamined within state institutions.  Unrest in Pakistan-Controlled Kashmir Today, army leadership under General Asim Munir continues to champion strong nationalistic rhetoric regarding Kashmir. He has been asserting it as the nation’s core and a willingness to fight further conflicts over Indian-administered territory. Yet, a  different internal dynamic has been evolving since 2025 within the territories Pakistan actually controls. Local populations have mobilized in widespread demonstrations driven by clear economic and political grievances. Unmanageable costs for basic essential goods. Disproportionately high pricing for local power distribution. Legislative structures that assign disproportionate authority to mainland administrators rather than local residents. State institutions responded with heavy-handed measures rather than operating for meaningful negotiation. The organizing groups were banned, communication blackouts were implemented and arrests occurred. Security forces deployed live fire against demonstrators  and caused dozens of civilian casualties. The Danger of Ignoring Unheard Grievances The concern raised by historians is not that history will reproduce the exact outcome of 1971, but that the state is relying on the same flawed logic. State is again attempting to suppress domestic economic and political grievances through state force. When state policy prioritizes coercion over political engagement, it risks alienating populations. The lingering question for Pakistan’s establishment is whether the lessons of past governance failures will finally be integrated, or whether suppressed grievances will once again lead to deep institutional crises.

Why you should stop sitting on your wallet

Pain in the lower back hip or leg is often blamed on spine problems.  However doctors say a simple daily habit may also be responsible. Sitting for long periods with a thick wallet in your back pocket can put pressure on an important nerve causing pain numbness or tingling. This condition is commonly known as “wallet sciatica” or “fat wallet syndrome.” It is not a disease but a problem caused by pressure on the sciatic nerve. Because its symptoms are similar to sciatica caused by spine problems many people mistake it for a back condition. The sciatic nerve is the largest nerve in the body. It starts in the lower back and runs through the hips and down each leg. Sitting on a thick wallet can make one side of the body higher than the other creating an uneven sitting position.  Over time this can put extra pressure on the nerve and lead to discomfort. Doctors say this constant pressure may reduce blood flow to the nerve cause irritation and lead to inflammation. In some cases it may also contribute to a condition called piriformis syndrome which can be confused with a spine problem. Common symptoms include a dull ache in the lower back or hip burning or shooting pain down the back of the leg tingling or numbness in the leg or foot and pain that gets worse after sitting for a long time. These symptoms usually appear on the same side where the wallet is carried. Experts warn that similar symptoms can also be caused by a slipped disc spinal narrowing or other nerve conditions. For this reason people should not rely on online information to diagnose themselves. If the pain continues a medical check up is important to find the real cause. People who sit for long hours such as office workers drivers and frequent travelers may face a higher risk. Carrying a wallet packed with cards receipts and cash makes the problem even more likely. The good news is that many people improve simply by changing this habit. Keeping your wallet in a front pocket jacket or bag removing unnecessary items and using digital payments can help reduce pressure on the nerve. Doctors also recommend standing up and walking for a few minutes every 30 to 45 minutes sitting with good posture and doing gentle stretching exercises with professional guidance. If pain numbness or difficulty walking continues or becomes severe seek medical care immediately. Experts say ongoing back or leg pain should never be ignored as it may sometimes be a sign of a more serious nerve or spine problem.
