“This is an amazing survivor that has been lovingly cared for by the family. The pictures remind me of the pictures I have of my Mom and Dad in front of Dad’s late thirties Harley in their leather motorcycle jackets, over the calf motorcycle boots, and riding pants. They rode from Indiana to the west coast and to Florida a couple of times. A hardy pair.”

“@PWSchuh Great observation! This Ace has lived a full life on the track since 1964, and the current suspension reflects how it was dialed in for competition. It handled the turns at Lime Rock and the Hershey Hillclimb beautifully with this setup. While it’s a blast to drive on the street now, the new owner can always revert to a stock alignment. We wanted to show the car with the ‘soul’ of its racing history intact!”

“This is a staggering amount of engineering. To the casual observer it will be hard to detect as the person / team that did this, did it to an OEM standard where you can’t tell where the custom parts start and stop.
Just getting the new long block into the correct position (clears the hood, cross member, firewall, etc.) is hours of trial and error, design work and then fabricating. Then there are all the ancillary items that have to fitted, plumbed and wired, shift linkage, gauges, drive…”

“Ah, the memories. Throwing those doors open to exit on a timed response only to have them not latch and come back on your hand, head, legs. Failing to latch the turret and spinning around on corners… enough to make you nauseous. Or backing in to the ATF with the M-60 not latched in the neutral position and bending the barrel (this actually happened). Maybe catching your boot on the door opening ledge and face planting. No one who rode in one doesn’t have an opinion on them.”

“I live in Great Falls and recognized the lead photo. The fellow that accumulated these had a beautiful collection of fully restored cars. He owned several bars in town and had a gorgeous 50’s Corvette in one of them, Classic 50’s Diner. I am guessing these are either donors or projects he ran out of time for. One’s demise will do that to you.”

“Love this example. I also have a Piedmont Green Metallic E400 Wagon (more photos on my IG @ptsrs) and can confirm it is a wonderful family car. It also gets surprisingly a lot of compliments, especially from young dads haha. As the other Piedmont owner said, the color is incredibly dynamic. The M276 V6 is buttery smooth and has a good reputation for reliability.
I searched for my wagon for several months, and pored over all of @1600veloce’s past listings of these wonderful wagons before…”

“My first car was a 1979 5 door GLE in this same color combo… it was 1987 in Syracuse NY, so there was already rust starting to consume the rear end of that beauty. I drove the hell out of that car lugging amps and guitars to gigs in high school. By the time I graduated in 1989 the rust won and I sold it to a guy who raced SAABs on a frozen lake nearby… her engine and those glorious front red-ish bucket seats went on to live their best life racing in ice rally’s! “Good memories on this BAT auction. We had a 2005 Freestar SES that we drove from 2005 to 2019. Had 250,000 miles. Took my son to 1st day of kindergarten and also helped him move into college his freshman year. 3 trips to Disneyworld, trips to Toronto, NYC, Pittsburgh, several to Indiana etc. Was a great riding van, large gas tank, decent milage. Made it from Disney to south of Raleigh on 1 tank. Our SES was the “sport ” version, this is the top of the line. We had some electrical issues…”

“The 8.1/Allison combo makes these trucks virtually bulletproof. Sure, they sip more fuel than their diesel sisters, but the buy in price and cheapness of maintenance and repairs make it much less of an issue. I sold mine 5 years ago and have regretted it ever since. It towed a 12k 5er all over the west, no problem. Uggh!”
