Meanwhile, rescue teams in Pakistan continue recovery operations following the deadly avalanche on Broad Peak. Authorities have confirmed that the bodies of eight climbers who lost their lives in the incident have been recovered.

Search and rescue teams are still looking for two missing mountaineers. The operation remains difficult because of harsh weather conditions, deep snow and the challenging terrain of one of the world’s highest peaks.

Emergency personnel have continued the mission despite the risks, using all available resources to locate the remaining missing climbers. Officials said the operation will continue until all those affected by the tragedy are accounted for.

The avalanche has shocked the international mountaineering community and prompted tributes from climbers, officials and supporters around the world. Many have remembered Nirmal Purja for his remarkable achievements, leadership and commitment to pushing the limits of high-altitude climbing.

    KARACHI: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has summoned four Karachi residents for questioning over alleged defamatory content posted on social media against Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon and his son. The inquiry was launched following a complaint submitted on behalf of Memon. The complaint relates to social media posts concerning the death of Karachi resident Mir Raza Ali. According to the notices issued by the agency, the respondents have been asked to appear at the NCCIA office in Karachi on August 13 at 11:30am. They have also been directed to bring their original identity cards and any documents or material they intend to use in their defence. The four individuals have also been asked to provide relevant digital devices and record their statements before the investigators. The agency warned that failure to appear could lead to further legal action. The development follows a complaint filed by Memon through his legal representatives. He had approached the cybercrime agency over what he described as false and malicious material being circulated online about him and his son. Memon has denied claims linking him to a guest house in Gulistan-i-Jauhar where Mir Raza Ali was allegedly subjected to violence. He also rejected allegations that his son travelled to London shortly after the incident and was later seen with security personnel. The senior minister said the allegations were not supported by facts or evidence. He alleged that the campaign was aimed at damaging his and his son’s reputation for political reasons. His legal counsel has requested that the agency identify those responsible and take action under applicable cybercrime laws. The complaint also seeks registration of a criminal case if sufficient evidence is found. The Mir Raza case has attracted significant public attention. Ali, who had studied at the Institute of Business Administration and owned a food business, was reported missing on July 28. His body was discovered the following day in bushes near Shahi Qila Ground in Gulistan-i-Jauhar. The investigation initially considered the possibility of suicide. However, Ali’s family consistently rejected that theory. They maintained that he had been kidnapped, assaulted and murdered. A second post-mortem examination later raised further questions about the circumstances of his death. The examination indicated that Ali had suffered a gunshot wound to the back, which challenged the earlier theory of suicide. The family’s lawyer, Jibran Nasir, called for changes to the investigation team. He also accused authorities of failing to properly pursue key aspects of the case. A new investigation team was assigned to the case on Sunday. Police also added a murder charge to the first information report.

Speaking at a press conference, SBP Governor Jameel Ahmad said inflation had eased significantly during the first half of the fiscal year. Average inflation between July and February stood at 5.5%, remaining within the lower end of the central bank’s target range. However, rising global oil prices, higher food costs, and increased shipping expenses triggered by tensions in the Middle East placed renewed pressure on prices in the following months. According to the central bank, inflation rose to 11.7% in May before easing slightly to 11.1% in June. The governor expressed optimism that inflation would begin to decline again from July, with a more noticeable improvement expected after September. For the current fiscal year, the SBP projects average inflation to remain close to 7%. The governor also highlighted improvements in Pakistan’s broader economic indicators. He noted that the country’s current account deficit narrowed significantly during the previous fiscal year to $139 million, while the current fiscal year’s deficit is expected to remain between zero and one percent of GDP. Strong remittance inflows have played a major role in supporting the external sector, with overseas Pakistanis expected to send around $44 billion this fiscal year, up from $41.6 billion in the previous year. The SBP also expects exports to improve gradually with government support, stronger performance from the information technology sector, and growth in food exports. While imports have increased, improved external financing has helped meet the country’s payment needs without creating excessive pressure on foreign exchange reserves. Pakistan’s foreign exchange reserves are projected to remain around $20.2 billion by the end of the year, while the country is expected to meet its external debt obligations through a combination of repayments, refinancing arrangements, and continued financial inflows. The central bank reaffirmed that it will continue to monitor domestic and international economic developments before making any future changes to monetary policy.
