Google getting everyone’s knickers in a twist

Google SEO

Thanks to everyone who sent supportive emails about the new snail mail club. It’s been a blast, and you can check out the progress here.

Recently, I received a lovely message from a student about SEO, coinciding with Google’s announcement of a significant strategy shift. You can read more about it here.

Google’s Latest Move

Interestingly, my Google traffic has been increasing, despite no changes in my approach, other than optimizing my content as I did 4-5 years ago. Additionally, my blog’s revenue has seen a recent uptick, which is quite surprising.

However, the recent news from Google has left many people concerned: chatbots are replacing Google searches, potentially eliminating the need for blue links and reducing referrals to news sites.

Is This the End of SEO and Google Traffic?

If you’re feeling anxious about the recent developments, here are a few reasons to calm down:

  • Many people dislike or don’t know how to use AI chatbots. The panic is largely driven by the tech community, not your average audience.
  • The UK has given media websites the power to block Google from using their articles in AI search, and other countries are likely to follow suit. This means AI search is not as settled as it seems.
  • People will still look for traditional links, and AI overviews often fall short.
  • AI search can still drive traffic to your site, especially when users want more information or don’t trust chatbots.
  • Even if Google traffic disappears, it’s not the end of the world. There are other ways to drive traffic and revenue to your site.
