Best time of the year to visit Ireland
Throughout the many times I’ve been to Ireland the top 3 months for travel are during the shoulder season. These months are May, September, and October. Traveling throughout these months, you’ll find fewer crowds as well as cheaper accommodation prices. These months offer a full itinerary of festivals and decent weather.
Here are some considerations based on each season. This will allow you to see what travelling period works best for you through your desired experiences and preferred weather:
- Spring (March to May):
- Weather: Spring is a lovely time to visit Ireland. The weather starts to warm up, and temperatures range from 8°C to 12°C (46°F to 54°F).
- Activities:Â The countryside is lush and green, and flowers are in bloom. It’s an excellent time for outdoor activities like hiking and exploring gardens.
- Summer (June to August):
- Weather: This is the warmest time of the year, with average temperatures ranging from 15°C to 20°C (59°F to 68°F).
- Activities:Â Summer is popular for tourists. It’s a great time for outdoor festivals, hiking, and water-based activities. Days are long with plenty of daylight.
- Fall (September to November):
- Weather: Temperatures start to cool down, ranging from 11°C to 15°C (52°F to 59°F).
- Activities:Â Fall brings beautiful foliage and is a good time for scenic drives, visiting historic sites, and enjoying local festivals.
- Winter (December to February):
- Weather: Winters are relatively mild, but temperatures can range from 3°C to 8°C (37°F to 46°F). Rain is more frequent during this season.
- Activities:Â Winter is a quieter time for tourists, which means you can explore popular attractions with fewer crowds. It’s also a great time for cozy pub visits and enjoying traditional Irish music.
Keep in mind that Ireland’s weather is known for being changeable, so it’s a good idea to be prepared for a range of conditions no matter when you visit. Additionally, popular tourist destinations can be busier during the summer months, so if you prefer a more relaxed experience, you might want to opt for visiting during spring or fall.
Summertime in Ireland, from June to August, is the greatest time of year to visit. During this time of year, many outdoor festivals and events are held around the nation, and the weather is often pleasant with long days. But you can enjoy Ireland’s picturesque scenery and ancient monuments all year round; spring and fall bring milder weather and fewer tourists.
