The groom-to-be had no idea this trip would turn into a rescue mission for an elderly dog trapped in the mud. This is one bachelor party he won’t forget.
It’s not every day that a wild bachelor party turns into a rescue mission for a dog.
On a beautiful day, Mitch, a young man about to get married, gathered his closest friends and set out on a canoe trip to celebrate his upcoming wedding. This bachelor party was supposed to be about nature and camaraderie. And is there a better way to bond than by rescuing a pup together?
Shortly after the group had lunch and continued their journey, Mitch’s nephew, Gaylen Fraenkel, heard a faint bark. They hadn’t come across anyone, so it was unlikely it was a camper’s dog. Gaylen decided to turn the canoe around to make sure everything was okay. And it was a good thing he did—a desperate dog was trapped in thick mud, using its last bit of strength to cry for help.
Upon closer inspection, they saw the poor dog was an elderly Saint Bernard. He was very thin and exhausted, with a nasty tick stuck to his eye. The rest of the group turned their canoes around and jumped out to help. The mud was so deep and thick that everyone sank up to their knees. But they were relentless in their effort to rescue the dog, using the paddles as shovels to dig him out.
Mitch White was on his bachelor party trip with his closest friends. The guys were in canoes when they heard barking.
As they approached the shore, they saw a dog crying for help, completely stuck in the mud.
To keep the dog comfortable, they offered him water, and he drank half a gallon before stopping. The kind guys shared their lunch with him, giving him some meat and summer sausage. This quick snack was meant to give him a boost of energy to get up. The bachelors called him Wilson and tried calling his new name in an attempt to get him to stand up, but he was too tired, even after the delicious summer sausages.
The group didn’t want to get too close to Wilson since they didn’t see a collar and weren’t sure if he was friendly. It’s always wise to be cautious around an unfamiliar dog.
Alex, one of Mitch’s friends, decided it was time to call for help and dialed 911. He explained the situation, and the Carver Fire Department was dispatched, arriving to help Wilson within 20 minutes. They brought a harness that they were able to slip under his chest, and the firefighters, along with two of Mitch’s friends, pulled Wilson out of his muddy prison. Success!
Thanks to the kindness of the bachelors and the help of the local fire department, the adorable dog was rescued.
After a successful rescue mission, Wilson was in for another pleasant surprise. Five minutes after being pulled from the mud, his owner appeared. He was shocked to see his four-legged friend covered in mud. “Ed! What are you doing down there in the mud?!” he exclaimed upon seeing his dog. This is how Mitch and his friends learned they had been calling Ed by the wrong name. Although, to me, he still seems like a Wilson.
A few days later, Mitch received a pleasant surprise when a friend of Ed’s owners reached out to him. They wanted to let Ed’s rescuers know that he was doing much better, recovering well, and already moving around on his own. I bet his owners won’t let him out of their sight now.
Ed, a charming senior Saint Bernard, was reunited with his owner and is feeling much better.
The adorable Ed was clearly born under a lucky star. Mitch’s group found him just in time to bring him to safety. But what would have happened if they hadn’t found him?
Owners want the best for their dogs: the best treats, piles of toys, and the freedom to roam and explore.
