After twisting his ankle twice within just over 10 minutes, Stephen Curry was eventually pulled from the game amid concerns from Golden State Warriors fans.
Following not one but two ankle twists in the game against the LA Clippers this past Monday, Golden State Warriors opted to rest Curry. According to the team’s announcement, Curry has a left ankle sprain and will sit out at least the next two Warriors games. The team captain will be re-evaluated for his condition at the end of the week and is likely to return next week.
Stephen Curry sustained the injury in the season’s first home game, as the Warriors hosted the LA Clippers at the Chase Center. In the third quarter, Curry twisted his left ankle and was immediately benched for evaluation. After some light exercises with the medical team, he returned to the court at the start of the fourth quarter. However, Curry twisted the same left ankle again, this time in visible pain, and was helped back to the locker room.
Missing their “chef” at a critical moment, the Warriors managed to cut the lead from 13 points down to just 1. However, it wasn’t enough, and the Warriors lost to the LA Clippers at home with a score of 104-112.
After the game, head coach Steve Kerr updated fans, saying Curry’s injury wasn’t too serious. Once the MRI results came in the next day, Warriors’ head coach added, “The results we have are quite positive. The important thing is that there’s no significant damage to Curry’s ankle.”
This season, Stephen Curry has yet to hit his stride, averaging 18.3 points, 6.7 assists, and 5.3 rebounds per game, shooting 40.7% from three-point range across the first three games.
While Curry’s injury worries Warriors fans, the good news is that the 36-year-old captain won’t be out for too long and hasn’t suffered a severe injury.
Most likely, Stephen Curry will only be out for about a week due to this injury.
The Golden State Warriors, who have a deep lineup and have rotated all 12 players in several games, suddenly find themselves missing three key players: Stephen Curry, De’Anthony Melton, and Andrew Wiggins. Melton, a recent summer signing for the Warriors, is currently sidelined due to a back injury. Andrew Wiggins is also dealing with a similar issue, having strained his back in the first few games of the season.
With both Curry and Melton out, the Warriors’ guard positions will be quite thin. Draymond Green and Kyle Anderson will likely handle the ball more frequently. Additionally, young guard Brandin Podziemski is expected to take on more minutes during Curry’s absence.
