Embracing the Unknown: My Journey into a New Business Venture

As I sit here at 3:02 am, my mind is racing with excitement and ideas for my new business. Despite the chaos of having a toddler and the impending launch of my online business, I couldn’t sleep. My brain is consumed by thoughts of packaging, suppliers, pricing, shipping, branding, and profit margins.

Starting a physical product business is a daunting task, especially when I already have a lot on my plate. However, I’m reminded that starting something new is often overwhelming, not in a motivational quote kind of way, but in a very real, uncertain way. There’s no familiarity, no confidence, and no proof that it will work, just a pile of unknowns, doubt, and a mix of excitement and fear.

The Uncertainty of Starting Something New

When you enter a new space, your brain craves certainty, wanting to know the entire roadmap before you begin. But I’ve learned that you don’t need to have it all figured out. You just need to take the next right step. Instead of getting bogged down by questions like ‘What if someone asks for a refund?’ or ‘How will I manufacture this?’, I remind myself to focus on the next step.

  • Calm down and take a deep breath
  • Ask myself, ‘What is the next step?’

This simple question changes everything, allowing me to break down the overwhelming task into manageable, smaller steps. Another challenge I’ve noticed is the comparison trap. As soon as you enter a new space, your brain starts comparing yourself to others who are already doing it better. But I’m trying to avoid this trap by focusing on my own journey and taking it one step at a time.
