Why sweet flag is such a smart support plant
Sweet flag is one of my favorite pool edge plants because it adds texture and quiet structure without trying to dominate the whole area. It also helps polish the look of the edge where water meets stone, gravel, or soil.
That subtle softness matters. Without it, a natural pool can feel too sharp or too engineered.
Where to use it
Plant sweet flag in shallow water or saturated soil near the transition between the pool and surrounding landscaping. I like grouping it in clusters so it reads as a real design choice.
It’s especially handy in sustainable pool landscaping where you want a relaxed, low-maintenance look. It plays nicely with flowering plants and taller rushes.
Why I keep recommending it
Compared with more aggressive grass-like wetland plants, sweet flag usually behaves better. That makes it a great fit for smaller yards and cleaner-looking designs.
