Hack #13: Build a Wedding- or BBQ-Specific Mosquito Plan
For a Casual Backyard BBQ
My minimum-effort BBQ plan is simple: dump standing water, set out fans, offer picaridin spray, cover food, and use a few repellents around the patio edge. That handles most average summer nights pretty well.
If you’ve got a bad mosquito yard, add traps a few days ahead and keep kids playing in the breezier part of the yard.
For an Outdoor Wedding
For a wedding, I’d go more discreet and layered: fan-based mosquito control, elegant planters, hidden repellent stations, warm lighting, mesh-covered service areas, and maybe a screened retreat. It keeps wedding guest comfort high without making the decor scream “bug panic.”
Comfort baskets in restrooms are a smart touch too. Add wipes, small repellents, tissues, and maybe heel protectors if you’re on grass.
Pick Your Level and Be Realistic
A “full protection” plan doesn’t mean perfect. It means you’ve lowered the odds of a bug-filled disaster by thinking ahead and using the right layers.
